Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners was held Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 6:53 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. Video

 

Present – President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Coderre, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Gregor.

 

Chairperson Mercer presided.

 

 

The reading of the records of March 8, 2023 was dispensed with and the records were APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk, Video

 

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Moreno, the *Consent Agenda was APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote. Video

Speaking was Attorney Jake D’Amico, 20 Wildrose Court, Warwick, RI.

 

Mr. D’Amico stated that the applicant will be doing auto sales, repair and rentals. He will be buying the property,

 

The applicant has 15 years of experience in this business.

 

Also speaking was David Greaves, 48 Columbus Avenue, North Providence, RI, applicant.

 

Mr. Greaves stated that he owns an auto body and sales shop in North Providence.

 

He has been in the industry for several years.

 

He plans to be doing rentals, sales, towing, autobody and repair. He has space for testing cars.

 

There will be no changes to the building; no construction.

 

The hours will be Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Saturday by appointment.

 

He has nine employees, and hopes to get to fifteen by the ending of the year.

 

The towing will be only for his customers.

 

He has room for 40-50 cars on his lot.

 

He will make the property look better.

With majority consent of the Board, the following motion made by Councilor Stachowiak, seconded by Councilors Araujo, Moreno and Rubio, was PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to issue a summons to Dollar Tree #7899 (Dollar Tree Stores, Inc.) 342 Power Road, to appear at a Formal Hearing on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, for the following reasons:

 

1.      Failure to appear at the Informal Hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2023, before the Pawtucket City Council, sitting as the Board of License Commissioners.

2.      Violation of 5260-15 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pawtucket regarding violations of city ordinance or regulation at the time of application for a license or the transfer or renewal of any license.

3.      Violation of 963.18 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pawtucket regarding junk, trash, litter, and debris on property.

4.      Violation of 5347-11 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pawtucket regarding trash containers overflowing and infrequency of collection.

Present on behalf of Family Dollar was Hassan Price, 622 Bullocks Point Avenue, Riverside, RI.

 

Mr. Price has been the general manager at Family Dollar since April 6, 2022.  He has not met the property owner. He spoke to his team at the store about handling the trash. 

 

He states there have been some issues with their waste company, so they switched to a new company about a month ago. The former company didn’t always make scheduled pick-ups.

 

He states that the dumpsters get picked up three times per week.

 

Mr. Price states that he will have to check the lease to see what his responsibility is for handling trash. He has two dumpsters with covers, one for cardboard and one for trash.

 

Mr. Price promises to keep the property clean.

 

Also, present is Shah Fahad, 152 Sunset Drive, Brockton, MA.

 

Mr. Fahad is district manager for Family Dollar, he was there to support Mr. Price.

 

There are no other speakers.
