A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 7:15 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – Chairperson Moran, Councilors Barry, Hodge, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault, Vitali and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Barros.

 

Chairperson Moran presides.

 

 

The reading of the records of October 8, 2014 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

ENTERTAINMENT –

A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION FOR LICENSE, WHICH WAS ADVERTISED FOR A HEARING AT THIS TIME, IS TAKEN UP:

 

AUTO REPAIR SHOP & SECOND HAND SHOP CLASS B (Parts Only) transfer -

 

Broadway Tire and Auto (BEC, Corp) transfer from Broadway Tire (Broadway Tire Inc.) 588 Broadway, LIC#10216 #10217

 

Speaking in favor is James Hallenbeck, 14 Steere Road, Cumberland, RI, applicant.

 

Mr. Hallenbeck states that he has been in the tire business for over 25 years in New York and Worcester, MA.

 

Broadway Tire has 7 employees; he will increase it to 8 employees.

 

The hours will remain the same: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday and 7:30 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday.

 

He will renovate the outside and the showroom.

 

He will continue to allow the patrons of Coogan’s Pub to use the parking lot after hours.

 

 

Also speaking is James Cullen, 282 Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Mr. Cullen wants to protect the rights of the people living on Gooding Street.

 

Broadway Tire bought property on Gooding Street, which is not being used for business purposes. Mr. Cullen wants it to stay that way.

 

He is concerned about the property values going down, if the lot becomes used for business.

 

He states that it would interfere with parking if it becomes a one-way street.

 

He has no objections if the business remains only on Broadway.

 

 

Speaking in favor is Stevan Simon, 4 Nottingham Way, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Mr. Simon states that he owns the building in which Coogan’s Pub is located.

 

He states that after the upgrades on Broadway there is more parking available on the street.

 

He supports the new business.

 

Mr. Simon asks what is going to happen with the lot at 605 Broadway, which Broadway Tire owns.

 

 

Mr. Hallenbeck states that he will use the lot at 605 Broadway for employee and customer parking.

 

He will keep the business as it is today.

 

Also, he will not put anything on Gooding Street.   

 

There are no other speakers.

Upon motion made by Councilor Wildenhain, seconded by Councilor Barry, the following licenses are APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote:

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Rudd, the meeting is adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
