A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – Chairperson Moran, Councilors Barros, Barry, Hodge, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault, Vitali and Wildenhain.
Absent – 0.
Chairperson Moran presides.
The reading of the records of December 14, 2012 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Barros, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

Speaking in favor is applicant Brian Coogan, 169 Grosvenor Avenue, East Providence, RI.
Mr. Coogan explains that this is the old Broadway Pub across from Broadway Tire. His hours of operation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. He has permission to use the lot across the street at night and on weekends for parking.
Mr. Coogan states that he will have a variety on his menu, including items such as burgers, fish & chips, snail salad, etc… He will serve food as late as the neighborhood allows.
Mr. Coogan states that he has walked the neighborhood and met the neighbors.
All of his staff will be TIPS Certified and this will create 5 new jobs.
The next speaker at the Public Hearing is Ali Ghoneim, 97 Gooding Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Ghoneim states that he has no problem with the business opening; however he is concerned about security, people parking on his street, and drunks in the neighborhood.
Mr. Coogan states that his staff is trained to not provide alcohol to those who appear intoxicated and they have been trained not to sell to minors.
The next speaker is Birame Samb, 591 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Samb states that he lives next to the location. There were many problems when the previous bar was there. There was noise, broken bottles, parking on his property.
Mr. Coogan states that there are no plans for entertainment at this time.
The next speaker is Joao Carvalho, 101 Gooding Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Carvalho states that he has two houses in the vicinity of this bar and there were many problems with the last bar. The area was a mess and the police were there all the time. Parking was always a problem and there was no respect for the neighborhood.
The next speaker is Carlos Rodriguez, 665 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Rodriguez states that he does not think there will be a problem with this bar. They will bring jobs to the area. There are already problems in the area and they were not caused by the bar.
