Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 6:50 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – Councilors Barry, Bray, Carr, Clemente, Hodge, Moran, Vitali and Wildenhain.
Absent – Chairman Grebien.
Vice Chairman Moran presides.
The reading of the records of May 10, 2006, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.
AN INFORMAL HEARING on the following is taken up:
CLASS B (Victualer)
Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tabu Restaurant & Lounge, 17 Exchange Street, LIC#10330
Representing the applicant is John Silvia, Attorney, 141 Phoenix Avenue, Cranston, RI.
Mr. Silvia states that Maria Alzate is not present.
Mr. Ricardo Romero is present. Mr. Romero is the promoter of the under age party at Club Tabu as well as providing security for the Club.
Councilor Clemente states that he is not comfortable with this type of advertising. He states he feels it is highly inappropriate to target children between the ages of 13-17. He states that when the applicant originally applied for this license, Mrs. Alzate stated that she would be running a restaurant type business and would be expanding the menu.
Councilor Clemente states that he was just informed that there was a fight at the Club on May 19th and that no one from the Club is present to answer any questions regarding this incident.
Mr. Romero states that there are two separate clubs operating at this business, one upstairs and one downstairs.
Councilor Clemente states that before this hearing goes any further, it will be rescheduled and the applicants will be requested to appear.
The informal hearing is closed.
THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR CLEMENTE.
With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to notify the owners of Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tabu Restaurant & Lounge to appear at a FORMAL HEARING scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2006, to discuss the recent announcement that Club Tabu is advertising an “All Ages Sunday” event for children between ages of 13 and 17, also to discuss the change in the scope of business originally detailed at the time the license was transferred.
Communication from Joseph Raheb, Esq., to Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners, representing Jorica Liquors LLC d/b/a Lonsdale Wine & Spirits, 465 Lonsdale Avenue, requesting permission to hold license until construction on new building is complete. IS READ AND ORDERED FILED AND THE REQUEST IS APPROVED ON A UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Barry, the meeting is adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
