July 7, 2004

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 7:03 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – Chairman Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Clemente.

 

Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the records of June 23, 2004, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

COUNCILOR CLEMENTE ARRIVES AT 7:04 P.M.

 

Communication from Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Jady Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, 553 Armistice Boulevard to C J Liquors, Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, in the total amount of $11,030.40, is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BRAY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Bray introduces the following communications:

 

Communication from Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Jady Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, 553 Armistice Boulevard to C J Liquors, Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, in the total amount of $4,960.72.

 

Communication from McLaughlin & Moran, Inc. objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Jady Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, 553 Armistice Boulevard to C J Liquors, Inc. d/b/a Countryside Liquors, in the amount of $10,732.03.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the following communications are READ AND ORDERED FILED:

A public hearing is held on the following application for license, which was advertised for a hearing at this time, is taken up:

Speaking in favor is Joel Chase, Esq., 585 Jefferson Boulevard, Providence, RI, attorney representing the applicants.   Also present is Robert & Christopher Jacobs, applicants.

 

Mr. Chase states that Robert Jacobs is a retired State Police Officer, and his son Christopher has been working in the liquor store business for the past year.

 

There are no other speakers.

 

The hearing is closed.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HOYAS.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hoyas, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the following license is APPROVED PENDING THE SETTLEMENT OF ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS on a unanimous voice vote:

Communication from Margaret M. Lynch-Gadaleta, City Solicitor, to Janice M. LaPorte, CMC, City Clerk.  (Class A Liquor Licenses – Sunday Sales) is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the meeting is adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
