August 11, 2004

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at 6:50 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – Chairman Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Grebien.

 

Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the records of July 21, 2004, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BRAY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Bray introduces the following communications:

 

Communication from Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class B (Victualer) liquor license of Barros and Brito Restaurant Inc. d/b/a Mindelo Restaurant, 17 Exchange Street to Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tropical Vibes, in the amount of  $2, 038.15

 

Communication from Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class B (Victualer) liquor license of Barros and Brito Restaurant Inc. d/b/a Mindelo Restaurant, 17 Exchange Street to Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tropical Vibes, in the amount of  $141.00

 

Communication from McLaughlin & Moran, Inc., objecting to the transfer of Class B (Victualer) liquor license of  Barros and Brito Restaurant Inc., d/b/a Mindelo Restaurant, 17 Exchange Street to Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tropical Vibes, in the amount of  $118.11

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the following communications are READ AND ORDERED FIELD:

COUNCILOR GREBIEN ARRIVES AT 6:53 P.M.

 

A Public hearing is held on the following application for license, which was advertised for a hearing at this time, is taken up:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tropical Vibes (Transfer from Barros and Brito Restaurant Inc., d/b/a Mindelo Restaurant) 17 Exchange Street, LIC#10330

 

Previous Stipulations:

 

1. Agreement to hire a police officer whenever there is a party scheduled.

 

Speaking in favor is applicant Marcus Smith, 21 Marshall Road, Milton, MA.

 

Mr. Smith states that he wants to operate the same type of Restaurant as current owner. He will expand the menu.  There will be no changes to the business.

 

Councilor Clemente states that the stipulations on the license are for  large parties.

 

Mr. Smith states that he has manager, with experience, that will run the day-to-day opertation.

 

Speaking in favor is Maria Barros current owner.

 

Mrs. Barros states that Pawtucket needs a good restaurant.

 

She feels that the applicant will run a successful business

   

There are no other speakers.

 

The Hearing is closed.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIEZES COUNCILOR CLEMENTE.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Bray, the following license is APPROVED WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS, PENDING THE SETTLEMENT OF ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS, on a unanimous voice vote:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Tropical Vibes Corporation d/b/a Tropical Vibes (Transfer from Barros and Brito Restaurant Inc., d/b/a Mindelo Restaurant) 17 Exchange Street, LIC#10330

 

Previous Stipulations:

Petition of Sacred Heart Church to sell beer and wine at a Holy Spirit Parish Feast, 38 Park  Street, on Friday, September 17, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday, September 18, 2004, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.; and Sunday, September 19, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. LIC#135
