May 21, 2003

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at 6:53 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – Chairman Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, and Moran.

 

Absent – Councilor Wildenhain.

 

Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the records of May 7, 2003, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BRAY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Bray introduces the following communications:

 

Claim of Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, objecting to the transfer of Class A liquor license of L & A Super 2001 Liquor Corp. d/b/a One Stop Liquors, 390 Smithfield Avenue, to Smithfield Avenue Liquor Store, Inc. d/b/a One Stop Liquors in the total amount of $19,373.61

 

Claim of Arcaro, Belilove, and Kolodney, objecting to the transfer of Class A liquor license of L & A Super 2001 Liquor Corp. d/b/a One Stop Liquors, 390 Smithfield Avenue, to Smithfield Avenue Liquor Store, Inc. d/b/a One Stop Liquors in the amount of $2,141.05.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the following communications are READ AND ORDERED FILED:

A public hearing is held on the following application for license, which was advertised for this time:

Smithfield Avenue Liquor Store, Inc. d/b/a One Stop Liquors, (Transfer from L & A Super 2001 Liquor Corp. d/b/a One Stop Liquors), 390 Smithfield Avenue, LIC# 10316

 

Speaking in favor is Joseph Coicca, 121 Phoenix Avenue, Cranston, RI, attorney representing the applicant.

 

Mr. Coicca states that his client is requesting a transfer in ownership.

 

Councilor Clemente states that the last owner had been a problem with signage.  Councilor Clemente wants to make sure that the signage is the same and the hours of operation will remain the same.

 

Mr. Coicca states that there will be no changes in signage and the hours of operation will remain the same.   He further states that all employees will be TIPS Certified.

 

There are no other speakers.

Upon motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, the following application for license is APPROVED, PENDING THE SETTLEMENT OF ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS, on a unanimous voice vote:

Petition of St. Anthony’s Church Holy Spirit Society to sell Beer and Wine at an Outdoor Festival-Feast, 32 Lawn Avenue, on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., and on Sunday, June 15, 2003, from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., LIC# 117

Upon motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Bray, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED:

Upon motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, the following petition for license is DENIED BASED ON FIRE SAFETY CONCERNS on a unanimous voice vote:

 

CLASS F (Full Privilege)

 

Petition of CACD to sell alcoholic beverages at a Dinner Dance at 120 High Street on Saturday, May 24, 2003, from 7:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., LIC# 118  (two licenses issued since December 1, 2002)

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR CLEMENTE.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Joao DeBrito, CACD, informing him of the Council’s decision denying his request for a Class F (Full Privilege) license for 120 High Street, and requesting that he contact Lt. McLaughlin at the Fire Department to have an inspection conducted at that facility.

 

The Clerk is further instructed to have this letter posted on the door of 120 High Street.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the meeting is adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
