A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at seven thirty-one o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – Chairman Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.
Absent – Councilor Grebien.
Chairman Barry presides.
The reading of the records of May 9, 2001, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
THE FOLLOWING PETITION FOR LICENSE WHICH WAS LAID ON THE TABLE ON APRIL 25, 2001, IS AGAIN TAKEN UP:
Petition of Latin Sports Inc., d/b/a Discoteca 2000, 327 Barton Street, LIC#10176 requesting permission to remain open until 2:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and the night before a legal Rhode Island holiday.
THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR CLEMENTE.
Upon motion made by Councilor Clemente, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, the following Petition is APPROVED with the following STIPULATIONS on a voice vote.
Councilor Wildenhain votes NO.
Petition of Latin Sports Inc., d/b/a Discoteca 2000, 327 Barton Street, LIC#10176 requesting permission to remain open until 2:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and the night before a legal Rhode Island holiday.
1. No Alcohol to be served after 1:00 a.m.
2. No Entertainment allowed after 1:30 a.m
A Public hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:
CLASS B (Victualer)
Deb’s Place Inc., 617 Prospect Street. LIC# 10292
Present at the hearing are the following:
Kevin O’Sullivan, 86 Charlton Avenue, Pawtucket RI., Property Owner
Debra Duby, 30 Eddington Street, Pawtucket RI., Applicant.
Kevin O’Sullivan states that he has owned this property since 1983, and ran the liquor business for 10 years during this time span.
Mr. O’Sullivan states that Ms. Duby managed the business for him for the last 2 years that he owned it.
Ms. Duby states that this business will attract middle age cliental. She also states that she would like to rent out the back of the business for showers, clam bakes, etc.
She also states she had nothing to do with last license holder.
Business will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
There will be no music at this establishment; there will be a jukebox.
President Barry states that there was a previous problem with the doors being left open.
Ms. Duby states that the doors will be shut at all times.
She also states that there will be a full operating kitchen with 6 people working there, including herself.
Speaking in opposition is Rhoda Hyde, 45 Fortin Avenue, Pawtucket RI.
Ms. Hyde states that she won’t have a problem with this business, as long as there is no live entertainment.
President Barry states there will be no entertainment at this location.
Ms. Hyde states that her fence was broken, and the previous owner never fixed the problem.
Mr. O’Sullivan states he did not have problems with the neighbors when he ran this business.
There are no other speakers.
The hearing is closed.
Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Bray, the following license is APPROVED with the following STIPULATIONS on a unanimous voice vote:
CLASS B (Victualer)
Deb’s Place Inc., 617 Prospect Street. LIC# 10292
1. Doors are to be kept closed at all times.
2. No Entertainment shall be allowed.
Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the meeting is adjourned at seven forty-five o’clock p.m.
