A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at seven fifty-three  o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – Chairman Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – 0

 

Chairman Barry  presides.

 

The reading of the records of October 11, 2000, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

AN INFORMAL HEARING regarding the following license is CANCELLED:

He states that there was a misunderstanding when he filed for his license. He filed his license as a partnership, and it should have been filed as a corporation.

Speaking in favor is Robert Thibeault, President of Boson Associates, 1044 Lonsdale Avenue, Central Falls RI.

 

Mr. Thibeault states that one bill has been paid, and did not know about any other bills that are owed.

 

He has been running the business for the past six months, and has done extensive renovations due to damage by the last owner.

 

Speaking in favor is Greg Negron, 106 Prospect Street, Pawtucket RI.

 

He states that he will be the manager and will also be bartending, and is T.I.P.S. certified, as well as Victor Ramos, who is the owner of this establishment.

 

Mr. Negron, states that this establishment will cater to an older crowd.

 

He has prior experience with this type of business. He worked for Caribbean Entertainment Inc., d/b/a Club Cosmopolitan, 25 Roosevelt Avenue, and also with Mr. Thibeault a few years ago.

 

There will be security at the door of this establishment; and, also there will be a D.J. for entertainment. There will be no major bands playing at this business. The hours of operation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.

 

Mr. Thibeault states that the license holder is hoping to purchase this building.

  

Councilor Moran states that he is concerned about the many changes that have happen at this location.

 

Upon questioning regarding a menu, Mr. Negron states that there will be appetizers, finger foods, etc. available.

 

President Barry asks if the new owners are present.

 

Mr. Negron states that the new owners have a language barrier, and have asked him to speak on their behalf.

 

Councilor Moran states that if problems occurs, there will be a police detail assigned.

 

Speaking in opposition is Edward Dunn, 99 Rhode Island Avenue, Pawtucket RI.

 

He states that there have been 5 transfers over a period of 10 years in this location.

 

He also wants to let the present applicant to know of this record, and states that the present owner holds a liquor license in Providence R.I. and has the same track record.

 

There are no other speakers.

1.  All Bartenders Must Be Tips Certified

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the following license is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

 

CLASS F (Beer And Wine)
