July 5, 2000

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at eight o’clock p.m. at Jenks Junior High School, Media Center, Division Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. 

 

Present - Councilors Bray, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Chairman Barry, Councilor Carr.

 

Vice Chair Bray presides.

 

The reading of the records of June 21, 2000, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HODGE.

 

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Hodge introduces the following communication:

 

Claim of  McLaughlin & Moran Inc., objecting to the transfer of Class A liquor license from D & R liquors Inc., 746 Broadway to Bhav Liquors Inc., in the amount of $22,153.70.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Wildenhain, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED:

A public hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:

Bhav Liquors Inc., d/b/a Rick’s Liquor (transfer from D & R Liquors Inc. d/b/a Rick’s Liquors) 746 Broadway; LIC#10276

 

Speaking in favor is Raymond and Debra Cahoon, Jr., 50 Hendricken Court, Warwick, RI, current owners.

 

Speaking in favor is Sushila Patel, 346-B Durfee Street Fall River, Massachusetts, applicant.

 

Upon questioning by Councilor Moran, Ms Patel states that she has pervious experience in operating a liquor store; whereby she worked in liquor store for 1-½ years in Swansea, Massachusetts. Her husband will help operate the store and they both will sign for Tips Certification classes.

 

Councilor Moran reminds Ms.Patel of prior liquor violations at this establishment, and asks if she understands and knows about the violations.

 

Ms Patel states that she does. 

 

The hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

 

There are no speakers in opposition.

 

The hearing is closed.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Moran, seconded by Councilor Wildenhain, the following license is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote, pending the settlement of all outstanding claims:

Communication from John F Neary, LTD to Janice M. LaPorte, CMC, City Clerk requesting the public hearing for the transfer of the liquor license for Town Lounge Inc.,be postponed until August 9, 2000.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED:

Upon motion made by Councilor Moran, seconded by Councilor Wildenhain, the following public hearing is postponed until August 9, 2000, at seven-thirty p.m.

Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor, Grebien the meeting is adjourned at eight-ten o’clock p.m.
