PAWTUCKET BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS

May 20, 1998

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at seven forty o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Pawtucket, RI. All the members are present except President Barry and Councilor Moran; Vice Chair Vieira presides.

 

The reading of the records of May 6, 1998, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Claim of Arcaro, Belilove, & Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Lonsdale Liquors Inc., 465 Lonsdale Avenue to J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., in the amount of $6,306.31 is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HODGE.

 

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Hodge introduces the following communications:

 

Claim of Arcaro, Belilove, & Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Lonsdale Liquors Inc., 465 Lonsdale Avenue to J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., in the total amount of $4,596.25.

 

Claim of Arcaro, Belilove, & Kolodney, Attorneys at Law, objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Lonsdale Liquors Inc., 465 Lonsdale Avenue to J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., in the amount of $7,415.47.

 

Claim of McLaughlin & Moran, Inc., objecting to the transfer of Class A Liquor License of Lonsdale Liquors Inc., 465 Lonsdale Avenue to J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., in the amount of $3,544.39.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Carr, the following communications are READ AND ORDERED FILED:

A Public Hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:

J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., d/b/a Lonsdale Liquors (transfer from Lonsdale Liquors Inc.) 465 Lonsdale Avenue LIC#242

 

Speaking is favor is Patrick Doherty, Attorney, 127 Dorrance Street, Providence, RI, representing applicant.

 

Juan A. Salcado, only officer of J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., applicant.

 

Attorney Doherty requests approval of this license transfer on behalf of his client, subject to the payment of all outstanding claims. He states that the applicant is still working on the financing end of the transfer.

 

Councilor Vieira asks the applicant if there will be any changes in the operation of the business.

 

Mr. Salcado states that the store will open earlier (8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.) Mr. Salcado also states that he will have 4-5 employees, and all will be TIPS certified. He states that he has 4-5 years of experience by working in his father’s store on Elmwood Avenue in Providence.

 

There are no other speakers.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR WILDENHAIN.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Wildenhain, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The public hearing on the following application for transfer is SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:

J.A.S. Liquors, Inc., d/b/a Lonsdale Liquors (transfer from Lonsdale Liquors Inc.) 465 Lonsdale Avenue LIC#242

 

The following petition for license is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

Class F (Beer & Wine)

 

Pawtucket Jaycees Octoberfest/Summerfest Committee, to sell beer & wine at the Summerfest Festival at the Slater Mill Parking lot on Roosevelt Avenue, on Saturday, June 20, 1998, from 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM; Sunday, June 21, 1998, from 12:00 Noon - 9:00 PM. LIC#31

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, the meeting is adjourned at eight fifty-one o’clock p.m.
