PAWTUCKET BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS
FEBRUARY 25, 1998
A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, February 25, 1998, at seven thirty o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Pawtucket, RI. All the members are present and Chairman Barry presides.
The reading of the records of February 11, 1998, is dispensed with and the records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.
A Public Hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:
CLASS B (VICTUALER)
43 Broad Street Inc., d/b/a News Cafe, 43 Broad Street and 44 Summer Street (Transfer 50% of Stockholders) LIC#237
There are no speakers in favor of this application.
There are no speakers in opposition to this application.
The hearing is closed.
Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Moran, the following application for license transfer is LAID ON THE TABLE on a unanimous voice vote:

A Public Hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:

Paradise Club LLC d/b/a Paradise Club, 250 Main Street (Transfer from Gabe’s Sports Pub Inc., previously located at 945-947 Mineral Spring Avenue.) LIC#238
Speaking in favor is Maurice Lundy, 30 Sweet Meadow Court, Narragansett, Rhode Island.
Mr. Lundy states that he is a friend to the applicant.
Speaking in favor is the applicant, Rafael DellaSantos, 40 Wallace St., Providence, Rhode Island.
Mr. DellaSantos states that he wants a restaurant, piano bar type atmosphere. He plans on having jazz music for entertainment.
Council President Barry asks Mr. DellaSantos where the restaurant will be at 250 Main Street.
Mr. DellaSantos states it will be where the Mill River Tavern used to be.
Mr. DellaSantos states that he needs more space than the original Tavern. He bought the building and wants to use the entire first floor. It will fit approximately 100 people. He will use the City Parking Garage for parking.
Council President Barry states that Michael Cassidy, Director of Planning, has some concerns with using the parking garage for parking. He asks Mr. DellaSantos what age he hopes to attract to the piano bar.
Mr. DellaSantos states people over twenty-one. He would also like to have Spanish and Latin music. He plans on bringing in groups from New York and Providence.
Council President Barry asks Mr. DellaSantos if he is aware of the two housing for the elderly complexes which are in close proximity to his location.
Mr. DellaSantos is unaware of the elderly complexes.
There are no other speakers.

Council President Barry would like Mr. DellaSantos to respond to the following list of questions in time for the meeting scheduled for March 25, 1998.
1. 200’ of church rule - Does this apply?
2. Speak to Michael Cassidy regarding the use of the parking garage for patrons of this establishment.
3. Meet with the Tenants Association at Towers East and Northern Plaza.
4. Meet with the Fire Department’s fire inspection officer regarding the Fire Occupancy Permit.
5. Speak to the Police Chief regarding the Chief’s concerns.
