May 24, 1995.

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, May 24, 1995, at nine fifty-one o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Pawtucket, RI. All the Members are present except Councilor Moran; Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the Records of May 10, 1995, is dispensed with and the Records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Communication from Richard E. DeLyon, Chief of Police objecting to the granting of a Class F liquor license to the Cape Verdean Men’s Society is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

The following petition for license is taken up:

 

CLASS F-1 (Full Privilege)

 

Cape Verdean Men’s Society requesting permission to sell alcoholic beverages at a fund raiser dance to raise money for the Church in the Cape Verde Islands, on Saturday, May 27, 1995, and Sunday May 28, 1995, from 9:00 PM - 1:00 AM. LIC#5.

 

Julio Baptista, applicant, 6 1/2 Beecher Street, Pawtucket, RI, discusses his request, and distributes a handout, which is made part of the record.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR VIEIRA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, to DENY the following petition for license, is passed on a unanimous voice vote, for the following reasons:

 

1.         Previous problems at this location.

2.         Police Chief’s opposition.

3.         Traffic problems.

4.         Not conducive to the neighborhood.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BRAY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Vieira, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to invite Elias Dernikos d/b/a City Line Pizza & Restaurant, 592-594 Pawtucket Avenue, to attend an informal pre-council session to answer questions regarding renovations to his establishment and an alleged incident involving a fight also at this location.

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the meeting is adjourned at ten seven o’clock p.m.
