Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners.

August 9, 1995.

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, August 9, 1995, at seven thirty-five o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Pawtucket, RI. All the Members are present except Councilors Demopulos, Doyle and Rabbitt; Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the Records of July 19, 1995, is dispensed with and the Records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

A Public Hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Gabe’s Sports Pub Inc (transfer from Geo’s Bar Inc.) 945-947 Mineral Spring Avenue LIC #196

 

Speaking in favor is Gabriel DaCamara, 40 Greene Street, Pawtucket, RI, applicant.

 

Upon questioning by Councilor Vieira, Mr. DaCamara states that he previously operated a liquor establishment in Pawtucket, (Groucho’s) from 1990-1993.

 

COUNCILOR HODGE ARRIVES AT 7:40 PM.

 

Councilor Vieira states that Geo’s Bar has been trouble free for the past three years and hopes that this continues.

 

Mr. DaCamara requests that the stipulations on this license be dropped.

 

Councilor Vieira states that he would like to see how Mr. DaCamara operates the business and to submit this request again in six months.

 

There are no other speakers.

 

The hearing is closed.

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the following application for license is APPROVED WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS:

 

1.         Sunday-Thursday must close at Midnight.

2.         Friday & Saturday must close at 1:00 a.m.

3.         Front Door must be kept closed.

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

A Public Hearing is held on the following application for license advertised for this time:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Restaurant Praia Ltd. d/b/a Restaurant Praia, 908 Main Street (transfer from Jan’s Place Inc., by Louis A. Geremia, Trustee for Paul-Brian Realty Inc. BK No. 92-11076, 58-60 Middle Street) LIC #195

 

Speaking in favor is Paul bettencourt, Attorney, 1481 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI.

 

Laurence DaSilva, 908 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI, applicant.

 

Mr. bettencourt states that Mr. DaSilva has operated a restaurant at 908 Main Street for the past three years and is now requesting to add liquor to serve with meals.

 

Mr. DaSilva plans to continue to operate this as a family restaurant.

 

There will be no entertainment.

 

The seating capacity is 24 persons; however, at some point he would like to expand his area into a portion of the business next to him, which is a laundromat.

 

The hours of operation will be 10 AM - 10 PM weekdays and longer on weekends.

 

Councilor Bray brings to Mr. DaSilva’s attention that there has been a lot of problems in this area, and has received several calls from the neighbors concerning this application.

 

Councilor Bray states that she will ask that this license be laid on the table until a meeting with the neighbors is scheduled.

 

Attorney Bettencourt objects to this and feels that the license should be granted this evening.

Upon Motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the following application for license is LAID ON THE TABLE until a neighborhood meeting is held:

Communication from Chief of Police, Richard E. DeLyon to Pawtucket City Council regarding S & L Inc d/b/a Cafe Ordway, 3 Ordway Street operating after closing hours, is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR MORAN.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Moran, seconded by Councilor Kinder, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a Formal Warning to the Class B (Victualer) liquor license holder of S & L Inc., d/b/a Cafe Ordway, 3 Ordway Street, Pawtucket, RI, for violating Section 3-7-7 of the General Laws of the State of Rhode Island, which regulates the hours of operation for this business; and to further advise licensee that any further incidents violating the liquor laws will result in a formal hearing before the Board of License Commissioners which would place the licensee in jeopardy of suspension or possible revocation of their license.

 

The following Petition for License is GRANTED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

CLASS F (Beer & Wine)

 

St. Anthony’s Church, to sell beer and wine at its Annual Outdoor Festival, at 32 Lawn Avenue on Friday, September 1, 1995, 7:00 PM - 12:00 Midnight; Saturday, September 2, 1995, 7:00 PM - 12:00 Midnight; Sunday, September 3, 1995, 7:00 PM -11:00 PM. LIC #8

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the meeting is adjourned at seven fifty-seven o’clock p.m.
