Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners.

September 8, 1993.

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, September 8, 1993, at nine ten o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Pawtucket, RI. All the Members are present and President Barry presides.

 

The reading of the Records of August 25, 1993, is dispensed with and the Records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR VIEIRA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the following matter is LAID ON THE TABLE on a unanimous voice vote:

 

FORMAL HEARING:

 

CLASS A - ANTONIO FERNANDES D/B/A FERNANDO’S LIQUORS, 558 BROADWAY.

 

A Public Hearing is held on the following application advertised for this time:

 

CLASS D (First Class)

 

Captain Elwood J. Euart V.F.W. Post #602, 55 Overland Ave

NEW LICENSE #164

 

Speaking in favor is Attorney Michael Horan, 393 Armistice Blvd., representing applicant.

 

Mr. Horan states that the Post hast been there since 1954 and it has 160 active members. The Post is requesting a liquor license for functions conducted by the Post; there will be no changes in its operation.

 

The next speaker is John Carney, 29 Varnum Street, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Mr. Carney states that the Euart Post has done many things for the Fairlawn area. The Post is always there for the people by donating the use of its building for meetings used by different youth groups. He states that the Post will not be open every day, just for functions; and for functions they need a liquor license.

 

Speaking in opposition is Elizabeth Correia, 24 Atwood Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Ms. Correia states that she does not want this turned into a barroom. She states that she does not want it open to the public, does not want problems with litter, crowds, noise, etc. She states that there have been no problems with this Club for the six years she has lived near it.

 

There are no other speakers.

 

The Hearing is closed.

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the following application for CLASS D (First Class) LIQUOR LICENSE OF Captain Elwood J. Euart V.F.W. Post #602, 55 Overland Ave

NEW LICENSE #164

 

is GRANTED WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS on a unanimous voice vote:

 

1.         NO REGULAR HOURS FOR SERVING ALCOHOL

2.         LIQUOR LICENSE SHALL ONLY BE USED FOR CLUB ACTIVITIES

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the meeting is adjourned at nine twenty-three o’clock p.m.
