March 10, 1993

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners is held Wednesday, March 10, 1993, at nine five o’clock p.m., at Jenks Junior High School, Media Center, 350 Division Street, Pawtucket, RI. All the members are present and Chairman Barry presides.

 

The reading of the records of February 24, 1993, is dispensed with and the Records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.

 

The INFORMAL HEARING regarding Michael Corso, Rhode Island Toreadors Junior Drum & Bugle Corps is LAID ON THE TABLE on a unanimous voice vote.

 

A Public Hearing is held on the following application for License advertised for this time:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Carousel Sports Lounge Inc (transfer from Upper Crust Pizza Inc., d/b/a Upper Crust Cafe & Deli) 505-507 Armistice Blvd LIC #158.

 

Speaking in favor is James Bigos, Attorney, 97 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, RI, representing the applicants Madeline & Dennis Furtado, 91 Bloomfield Street.

 

Mr. Bigos states that the establishment will have a sports motif; i.e. sports pictures and memorabilia. The Furtado’s have no experience in running this type of business.

 

Mr. Furtado was the manager of the Portugal Pub in Providence; and Mrs. Furtado is a nurse.

 

The hours will be from Lunchtime until 1:00 a.m. They may have some jazz and country western music bands on occasion.

 

Mr. Furtado will run the business full time, and will use only the top floor. They will serve a full lunch. There are 100 seats, 20 of which are at the bar. More alcohol will be served at night. There is a parking lot next door, and no special parking arrangements have been made.

 

There are no other speakers.

 

The Hearing is closed.

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilors Kinder and Calista, the following application for transfer is GRANTED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

CLASS B (Victualer)

 

Carousel Sports Lounge Inc (transfer from Upper Crust Pizza Inc., d/b/a Upper Crust Cafe & Deli) 505-507 Armistice Blvd LIC #158.

 

State of Rhode Island Department of Health, Division of Food Protection submitting an “Immediate Compliance Order” to the Class B (Victualer) establishment of Ilha Verde Club Inc., 447-451 Mineral Spring Avenue is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

Notification from Rhode Island Department of Health submitting approval for reopening of the Ilha Verde Club is READ AND ORDERED FILED.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR VIEIRA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder is passed on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to Summons the Officers of D.V.K. Enterprises Inc. d/b/a Boomer’s Sports Bar and Comedy Club, 327 Barton Street, to appear at a Formal Hearing regarding disturbances at the establishment on Sunday, March 7, 1993, which required police intervention; injury to patrons resulting in rescue being called to transport to Emergency Room; crowd control, etc.

 

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder the meeting is adjourned at nine seventeen o’clock p.m.
