City Council, October 23, 2024
A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council was held Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 7:09 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – President Pro Tempore Araujo, Councilors Coderre, Gregor, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, and Wildenhain.
Absent – Council President Mercer, Councilor Stachowiak.
President Pro Tempore Araujo presided.
1. The reading of the records of the October 9, 2024 Finance Committee meeting, Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, and City Council meeting was dispensed with and the records were APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
2. Upon motion made by Councilor Moran, seconded by Councilor Moreno, the *Consent Agenda was APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:
*THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATIONS WERE READ AND ORDERED FILED
A. 623 - Communication from Paul Gallagher, Director of Human Resources, to the Personnel Board (Personnel Board Approval to Change Grades for Fire Chief, Police Chief, and Communications Director)
B. 630 - Communication from Robert Burns, Tax Assessor, to the Honorable Members of the Pawtucket City Council (Abatement Recommendations for April, May and June 2024)
C. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ABATEMENT OF TAXES FOR MOTOR VEHICLES, REAL ESTATE AND TANGIBLES FOR APRIL, MAY AND JUNE 2024, IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,899.92 – WAS REFERRED TO THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
D. 630 - Communication from Robert Burns, Tax Assessor, to the Honorable Members of the Pawtucket City Council (Abatement Recommendations for July, August and September 2024)
E. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ABATEMENT OF TAXES FOR MOTOR VEHICLES, REAL ESTATE AND TANGIBLES FOR JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER 2024, IN THE AMOUNT OF $255,894.22 – WAS REFERRED TO THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
F. THE FOLLOWING CLAIM FOR DAMAGES AGAINST THE CITY WAS REFERRED TO THE COMMITTEE ON CLAIMS AND PENDING SUITS:
1. John Duffy – $900 – $1,200 (Pothole)
G. THE FOLLOWING CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES AGAINST THE CITY WAS REFERRED TO THE LAW DEPARTMENT AND RI INTERLOCAL TRUST:
1. Elaine DeMoranville by Keches Law Group – $100,000.00 (Trip and Fall)
2. Otto Guzman by Progressive Subrogation – $3,663.18 (Fire Vehicle)
3. UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE, THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE WAS INDEFINITELY POSTPONED ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, AS FOLLOWS:
AYES – President Pro-Tempore Araujo, Councilors Coderre, Gregor, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, and Wildenhain.
NOES – 0.
4. UPON RECOMMENDATION FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE, THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE WAS READ AND PASSED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, AS FOLLOWS:
AYES – President Pro-Tempore Araujo, Councilors Coderre, Gregor, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, and Wildenhain.
NOES – 0.
Upon motion made by Councilor Moran, seconded by the Councilor Rubio, the meeting was adjourned at 7:12 PM.
