City Council, June 13, 2024

 

A special session of the Pawtucket City Council was held Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 7:02 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Present President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilors Coderre and Gregor.

 

President Mercer presided.

AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 88-28 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET, 1996, ENTITLED “COMPENSATION (School Committee) WAS LAID ON THE TABLE. Video

 

 

COUNCILOR GREGOR ARRIVED AT 7:07 PM.

 

 

THE COUNCIL TOOK UP THE FOLLOWING:

 

AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 88-5 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET, 1996, ENTITLED SALARY” (Mayor) Video

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZED COUNCILOR WILDENHAIN:

 

Per recommendation of the Finance Committee, upon motion made by Councilor Wildenhain, seconded by Councilors Moran and Rubio, the following AMENDMENT to the above entitled ordinance was taken up:

 

Amend as follows:

 

The salary of the Mayor shall be at the annual rate of $80,000.00 $150,000 $130,000, Notwithstanding any ordinances or provisions to the contrary, the Mayors salary shall increase in January of each year by two percent (2%), beginning in 2026.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Wildenhain, seconded by Councilors Moran and Rubio, the following amendment was PASSED on a roll call vote, as follows:

 

AYES President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Gregor, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

NOES – 0.

 

Amend as follows:

 

The salary of the Mayor shall be at the annual rate of $80 000.00 $150,000 $130,000, Notwithstanding any ordinances or provisions to the contrary, the Mayors salary shall increase in January of each year by two percent (2%), beginning in 2026.

 

 

UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE, THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE WAS READ FOR THE FIRST TIME, AS AMENDED, AND PASSED ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, AS FOLLOWS:

 

AYES President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Gregor, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

NOES – 0.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZED COUNCILOR WILDENHAIN:

 

Per recommendation of the Finance Committee, upon motion made by Councilor Wildenhain, seconded by Councilors Moran and Rubio, the following AMENDMENT to the above entitled ordinance was taken up:

The salary of the President of the City Council shall be at the annual rate of $8,000 $15,000, and the salary of all other members of the City Council shall be at an annual rate of $7,000 $13,000.

 

The salary of the members of the City Council shall be at an annual rate of $13,000. Notwithstanding any ordinances or provisions to the contrary, the City Council members’ salary shall increase in January of each year by two percent (2%), beginning in 2026. The salary of the President of the City Council shall at all times be $1,000 more than the other members of the City Council.
