City Council, January 31, 2024

 

 

A special session of the Pawtucket City Council was held Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 6:42 p.m., in the City Hall Basement, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Coderre, Moran, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Moran.

 

President Mercer presided.

 

591      Communication from Terrence E. Mercer, Council President, to the Honorable Members of the Pawtucket City Council, calling a special session of the City Council on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. WAS READ AND ORDERED FILED

 

 

The reading of the records of the January 17, 2024 Animal Control Committee meeting, City Property Committee/Committee of the Whole meeting, Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, and City Council meeting was dispensed with and the records were APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZED COUNCILOR ARAUJO

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Stachowiak, the agenda was amended to allow Councilor Gregor to speak on the following topics:

1.     Notifying the public that February 2, 2024 will be the last day to make public comments to RIDEM regarding Morley Field.

2.     Expressing his concerns regarding toxins and chemicals from the demolition of the former Sawyer School/George’s Games building at 101 Main Street..

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Moreno, the agenda is amended to include the following communication, on a unanimous voice vote:

 

Communication from Camerin Bennett, Assistant Planning Director, to the Honorable Members of the Pawtucket City Council (Recommendation of Support by the Planning Commission Regarding the City’s Acquisition of Property: Freight Street – AP 8 Lots 417, 416, 415, 399 and 414)

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Wildenhain, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED on a unanimous voice vote.

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Coderre, the agenda is amended to introduce the real estate appraisal for the properties at Freight St., Cottage St., and Freight St. Vacant Lots, on a unanimous voice vote:

 

Real Estate Appraisal by Andolfo Appraisal Associates, Inc., for 100 Freight Street; 330 Cottage St; and Freight Street Vacant Lots, Pawtucket, RI 02860

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Araujo, seconded by Councilor Coderre, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED on a unanimous voice vote.

 

592      Real Estate Appraisal by Andolfo Appraisal Associates, Inc., for 100 Freight Street; 330 Cottage St; and Freight Street Vacant Lots, Pawtucket, RI 02860

 

 

UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE CITY PROPERTY COMMITTEE, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS APPROVED ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, AS FOLLOWS:

 

AYES – President Mercer, Councilors Araujo, Coderre, Moreno, Rubio, Stachowiak and Wildenhain.

 

NOES – Councilor Gregor.

 

588      RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET TO ENTER INTO A PURCHASE AND SALES AGREEMENT BETWEEN KENWOOD REALTY, LLC, SABIN REALTY, LLC, FREIGHT REALTY, LLC AND 330 REALTY, LLC AND THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET FOR THE PROPERTIES LOCATED AT 100 FREIGHT STREET (AP8 L417); 25 FREIGHT STREET (AP8 L415 L399); 75 SABIN STREET (AP8 L416); 330 COTTAGE STREET (AP8 L414) IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $14.8 MILLION.
