City Council, October 20, 2021

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 7:13 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Moran, Councilors Araujo, DaRosa, Gregor, Mercer, Schuette, Vasquez and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – 0.

 

President Moran presides.

 

The reading of the records of the October 6, 2021 Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, City Property Committee meeting, Ordinance Committee meeting and City Council meeting is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Mercer, seconded by Councilor Araujo, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:

            G.     AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 364 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET, 1996, ENTITLED “TELECOMMUNICATIONS” ADDITION OF ARTICLE VIII ENTITLED “SMALL WIRELESS FACILITIES AND WIRELESS SUPPORT STRUCTURES” – IS LAID ON THE TABLE.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilor Vasquez, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to William Vieira, Director, Zoning & Code Enforcement, requesting that Zoning look into complaints that Councilor DaRosa received regarding roof leaks, infestations and trash issues at Slater House.  One woman complained because her stove hasn’t been replaced in 25 years.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilor Vasquez, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Sara Miranda, PHR, Human Resources Coordinator, requesting that she provide to the council the policy regarding election activities by city employees.  What restrictions are there on employee election activities?  What requirements are there for employees who wish to do political activities?

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR DAROSA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilor Schuette, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Dylan Zelazo, Director of Administration, regarding a recent petition drive that was done about the creation of a dog park in the Fairlawn section of the city.  The council is requesting a copy of the petition. Councilor DaRosa, who read about the petition in a recent article, stated that she wants to see how the people who live on Grotto Avenue near where the park would be built feel about the dog park.

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR GREGOR.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Gregor, seconded by Councilors Wildenhain and Schuette, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Sara Miranda, PHR, Human Resources Coordinator, requesting the utilization analysis information on the fire department similar to the utilization analysis information that was provided on the police department in the city’s Affirmative Action Program. 

 

 

Communication from His Honor, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, to the Honorable Members of the Pawtucket City Council, submitting the following appointment as a member of the Parks Commission, FOR CONFIRMATION:
