City Council, November 23, 2021

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 7:26 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

 

Present – President Moran, Councilors Araujo, DaRosa, Gregor, Mercer, Schuette, Vasquez and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – 0.

 

President Moran presides.

 

The reading of the records of the November 10, 2021 City Property Committee meeting, Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, License Committee meeting, and City Council meeting is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Mercer, seconded by Councilor Vasquez, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED on a unanimous voice vote:

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR DAROSA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilor Mercer, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The clerk is instructed to send a communication to Frank J. Milos, Jr., Esq., City Solicitor, requesting that he contact Rossi Law Offices and Beacon Mutual to ask for reports on any cases they handled for the city during the last fiscal year, for inclusion in the city solicitor’s annual report.   

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR DAROSA.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilor Schuette, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The clerk is instructed to send a communication to David Clemente, Director of Public Works and Robert Burns, Tax Assessor regarding the transfer station:

 

From Mr. Clement, the council wants to know:

 

1.     Regarding the contract with the transfer station and the building of a new station, the council would like an update on the where they are with that.

2.     Who makes sure that the operators of the transfer station comply with the weight limits (daily tonnage) at the transfer station?

3.     When trash falls off the trucks on the way to the transfer station, who is responsible for cleaning up the debris; the city or MTG?

 

From Mr. Burns, the council wants to know:

 

Are there tangible taxes being paid on the 75 dumpsters being stored on Concord Street?

588      RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN EASEMENT WITH THE COASTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT COUNCIL (CRMC) DEPARTMENT AND AGENCY OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND, FOR THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 0 TAFT STREET (AP54 L827)

 

UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE LICENSE COMMITTEE, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION IS READ AND PASSED, ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, AS FOLLOWS:

588      RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES AND PENALTIES FOR LIQUOR LICENSE HOLDERS FOR OPERATING AFTER HOURS

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor DaRosa, seconded by Councilors Schuette and Gregor, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The clerk is instructed to send a communication to Tina Goncalves, Chief of Police requesting that the police department beef up patrols through Christmas in the area around Murphy’s Liquors and Payne Park.  This request is in response to gunshots and other violent acts that Councilor DaRosa noted in this area of the city.

588      RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF KARLY LALIBERTE IN HER QUEST AT THE MISS USA 2021 COMPETITION.
