City Council, June 23, 2021
A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 7:58 p.m., via videoconference on ZOOM during the COVID-19 pandemic, per Governor’s Executive Orders up to and including 21-59.
Present on ZOOM – President Moran, Councilors Araujo, DaRosa, Mercer, Rudd, Schuette, Vasquez and Wildenhain.
Absent – 0.

The reading of the records of the May 12, 2021 Finance Committee/Committee of the Whole – Budget Workshop meeting, 5/13/2021 Finance Committee/Committee of the Whole – Budget Workshop meeting, 5/19/2021 City Property Committee meeting, 6/9/2021 Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, Finance Committee meeting and City Council meeting is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk, on a roll call vote, as follows:

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Tina Goncalves, Chief of Police, asking who does the grant writing for the police department. Also, is the city going after the money for programs such as those mentioned in the above letter from Senator Reed’s Office.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to William Vieira, Director of Zoning and Code Enforcement, asking if the city has a private company under contract this year to fill the rat bait boxes around the city. If so, the council wants to know the name of the company and a contact person they can reach it there is an issue.
Councilor Rudd stated that he has received several calls about rats in the 6th district and he understands that the Zoning Division has limited staff to bait the boxes. So, if the city does not have a company under contract, the council wants to know what the city is going to do to alleviate the rat problem.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Tina Goncalves, Chief of Police, regarding speeding issues in the city.
- The Council wants to know what the city is doing to control speeding. Is there a plan in place?
- At the request of Council Vasquez, the Council is requesting that the chief have officers check for speeding on Anthony Avenue. They are requesting a report when the police department completes the review.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael Burns, Traffic Engineer, requesting his thoughts on any speed calming methods or devices, such as speed bumps, that could help alleviate the speeding problem in the city.

COUNCIL PRESIDENT MORAN APPOINTS COUNCILOR VASQUEZ TO FILL THE VACANCY ON THE FINANCE COMMITTEE.
Upon motion made by Councilor Mercer, seconded by the Entire City Council, the meeting is adjourned at 8:23p.m.
