City Council, July 22, 2020

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 12:10 p.m., via videoconference on ZOOM during the COVID-19 pandemic, per Governor’s order 20-25, 20-46 and 20-53.

 

Present on ZOOM – President Moran, Councilors Araujo, Barry, Mercer, Vasquez, Vitali and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilors Kallman and Rudd.

 

President Moran presides.

 

The reading of the records of the July 8, 2020 Committee on Claims and Pending Suits meeting, Ordinance Committee meeting, and City Council meeting is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk on a roll call vote, as follows:

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Eric J. Earls, PE, Director of Public Works, asking if there will be multilingual outreach to the community regarding how any missed trash will be picked up by the vendor 24-hours later.   The Council wants to make sure that the community is aware of this so that any missed trash will not be brought back into the resident’s yards.

 

The Council is further asking if there can be continued negotiations with the vendor to make sure all trash is picked up, even if that would mean having a second person on the truck.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Tina Goncalves, Chief of Police, requesting that there be enforcement of parking violations on Pine Street.  Currently there have been complaints of cars parking on both sides of the road.

 

The Council is further requesting an update to the request from their July 8, 2020 meeting regarding speeding on Beecher Street.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Tina Goncalves, Chief of Police, requesting a list of contacts for different issues or a Council liaison, such as they had in the past.   The Council feels that a Council liaison would be beneficial, because although the chief is always very responsive their questions or requests, they do not want to burden her with issues that could be handled by someone else.
