City Council, January 25, 2017

 

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 7:18 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Moran, Councilors Barry, Cano, Kallman, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault, Vitali and Wildenhain

 

Absent – 0.

 

President Moran presides.

 

The reading of the records of January 11, 2017 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Mercer, seconded by Councilor Tetreault, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCIL RUDD.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Rudd, seconded by Councilor Kallman, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael Burns, Traffic Engineering Supervisor, requesting that he do a study on Oneida Street to determine if it is feasible to have only one-sided parking on the street.  Residents are complaining about the congestion caused by two-sided parking and are concerned that fire trucks may not be able to get down the street.

 

 

 

 

**	J.       Communication from Michael D. Cassidy, Planning Consultant, to David P. Moran, President, Pawtucket City Council.  (City of Pawtucket – RIDOT Grant Projects) IS REFERRED TO THE CITY PROPERTY COMMITTEE.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Rudd, seconded by Councilor Barry, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Lindsey Sasso, Rhode Island Department of Transportation, requesting that the council and all residents/businesses located near a site on which work is about to begin be notified of the project prior to its commencement.  At the meeting, it was stated that the council and the neighbors were caught unaware of the closing of the Barton Street Bridge, which caused a lot of confusion in the area.

 

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCIL BARRY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Barry, seconded by Councilor Rudd, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael D. Cassidy, Planning Consultant,

regarding the proposed Exchange Street project, which is now before the council’s city property committee.  The council wants to know how this project will affect the Fuller Building redevelopment project and their need for on-street parking during their renovations.

 

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCIL BARRY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Barry, seconded by Councilors Rudd and Kallman, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Mayor Donald R. Grebien regarding a proposal by John Welch to create a Microsoft-Pawtucket alliance. The council is requesting that the administration and the Pawtucket Foundation look into this proposal to determine if it is something worthy of supporting.
