City Council, September 7, 2016

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 7:42 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Moran, Councilors Barry, Bray, Cano, Hodge, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault and Wildenhain

 

Absent – 0.

 

President Moran presides.

 

 

The reading of the records of August 24, 2016 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Tetreault, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HODGE.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilors Rudd and Barry, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to research whether the city could pass an ordinance to increase the fines for speeding within a specified distance from a crosswalk without first getting enabling legislation passed in the general assembly.

 

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HODGE.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilors Rudd and Barry, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Mayor Donald R. Grebien, requesting that the City come up with a system to improve signage warning drivers about upcoming crosswalks, especially those around curves.  The Council suggests starting at major intersections in the city. 

 

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BARRY.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Barry, on behalf of Council President Moran, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Dylan Zelazo, Chief of Staff; and Joanna L’Heureux, Finance Director, requesting a list of all positions created and those eliminated since the beginning of the Grebien administration.  They also want the financial impact of these changes in positions. 

 

 

 

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR RUDD.

 

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Rudd, seconded by Councilor Bray, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication Paul King, Chief of Police, requesting that a meeting be set up with Councilors Bray and Rudd and representatives of Anchor Recovery to discuss issues at Collyer Park, which need to be addressed as soon as possible.

 

 

 

609   Communication from Richard Botelho, Engineering Supervisor, Distribution Design, National Grid, to the Pawtucket City Council, requesting a new joint pole at Campbell Street.  IS READ AND ORDERED FILED AND THE REQUEST IS APPROVED PENDING THE APPROVAL OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
