City Council, October 7, 2015

 

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 7:36 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Moran, Councilors Barry, Bray, Cano, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault and Wildenhain.

 

Absent – Councilor Hodge.

 

President Moran presides.

 

The reading of the records of September 23, 2015 and September 28, 2015, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Rudd, seconded by Councilor Tetreault, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Antonio J. Pires, Director of Administration, requesting information regarding the city’s application for grants.  Specifically, they want to know:

 

1.      Does the city have a database in the Planning Department or elsewhere that keeps track of grant applications?  If not, why not? 

2.      Has the city applied for the latest round of COPS grants?

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Cano, seconded by Councilor Rudd, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

 

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Police Chief Paul King and Richard J. Goldstein, MMC, City Clerk, requesting the following information regarding the Body Works Ordinance:

 

1.      Is the ordinance being enforced?  If so, how many establishments have been closed and how many have been licensed?

2.      If the ordinance is not being enforced, why not?  What are the challenges causing confusion with the ordinance?  Is there any way the council can help resolve the issues?  Does the council need to revisit and amend the ordinance? 

3.      Have any businesses reached out to the City about the new licensing requirements?  If so, how many?  Do they have any concerns?
