A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 7:41 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – Councilors Barros, Hodge, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault, Vitali and Wildenhain.
Absent – President Moran and Councilor Barry.
President Pro-Tempore Hodge presides.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Barney S. Heath, Director of Planning and Redevelopment regarding memorials honoring veterans from the Korean and Vietnam War eras that were located on various street corners throughout the city. The Council noted that several of the monuments are missing and they are requesting that he research these missing monuments to determine who they were meant to honor. The Council is also requesting that he come up with some ideas on how to remember these honored dead.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Lance Hill, Director of Public Works, regarding the portions of Benjamin Street and Woodhaven Road that are on the list of worst rated roads in Pawtucket, but are not on the list of roads scheduled for repairs. The Council asks him to consider adding them to the list of roads to be repaired.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael Lewis, Director, Rhode Island Department of Transportation, thanking him for the much needed repairs to the roads used as detours for the Bridge 550 project and asking when the repaving and repairs to the broken lights on the Division Street Bridge, caused by the rumbling of trucks using the bridge as a detour, will be done.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Tetreault, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to the Honorable Mayor Donald R. Grebien, regarding two motions that were made by Councilor Hodge, on behalf of Council President Moran, at the last Council meeting and regarding the letter sent to him by the Council President.
The first motion is requesting an explanation regarding the recent hire of Dylan Zelazo as Director of Constituent Services and Communications. The Council wants to know under what authority in the Charter was the position created, considering that the position was not approved by the Council in a pay plan or by request.
The second motion is requesting to know specifically who the Mayor was referring to in the newspaper story when he talked about correcting the problems caused by past politicians as well as the specific problems that he was speaking about. The Council is concerned with the loose way the term “past politicians” was used.
