A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at 1:01 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – President Moran, Councilors Barros, Barry, Hodge, Mercer, Rudd, Tetreault, Vitali and Wildenhain.
Absent – 0.
President Moran presides.
The reading of the records of August 7, 2013 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

Lewis, Director, RI Department of Transportation, expressing the City Council’s appreciation for his quick response to their letter on the Division Street Bridge and their pleasure with the plan in place to protect the taxpayers of Pawtucket and all of the users of the Division Street Bridge.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Frank J. Milos, Jr., Esq., City Solicitor, requesting that he provide the City Council with a response to the Council’s July letter seeking a legal opinion on the hiring of the second Director of Constituent Services and Communications position in time for the council meeting on September 11. 2013.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, on behalf of Council President Moran, seconded by Councilor Tetreault, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Frank J. Milos, Jr., Esq., City Solicitor, requesting that he provide the City Council with an update on the Frank Sylvester and the Ken Provost cases. The council wants to know the status of these cases and what his thoughts are on the outcomes of these cases; specifically, does he think the city will receive any money from these cases.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Mercer, on behalf of Council President Moran, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Joanna L’Heureux, Finance Director, asking that she provide the City Council with a breakdown of the expenses for Dan Sherman, in his capacity as actuary on the police and fire pension FIP. How much was the total bill for his services and how were the expenses allocated (which departments and how much per department)?

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, on behalf of Council President Moran, seconded by Councilor Mercer, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Antonio J. Pires, Director of Administration, requesting that he provide the City Council with a status on the police and fire pension FIP. The Council is asking if the state approved the city’s plan and if so, what are the next steps needed to move the plan forward.
Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Mercer, the meeting is adjourned at 1:18 p.m.
