City Council, February 24, 2010

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at 7:46 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

Present – President Kinch, Councilors Barros, Barry, Chadwick, Moran, Tetreault and Vitali.

Absent – Councilor Hodge.

President Kinch presides.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Ronald L. Wunschel, Director of Finance, requesting that he come to the pre-council meeting on March 10, 2010, regarding the expected revenue collections through the end of this fiscal year.

RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CITY COUNCIL’S DEEPEST SYMPATHIES TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS, CLASSMAT4ES AND FELLOW MARINES OF PRIVATE FIRST CLASS KYLE JOSEPH COUTU, A TRUE AMERICAN HERO, WHO PROUDLY AND COURAGEOUSLY GAVE HIS LIFE IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY

588 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD ENACT THE PACKAGE OF ARTICLES IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET SUPPORTED BY THE RHODE ISLAND LEAGUE OF CITIES AND TOWNS TO PROVIDE MUNICIPALITIES THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO MORE EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY CONTROL SPENDING.

UPON THE PASSING OF COUNCILOR WILDENHAIN, COUNCIL PRESIDENT KINCH MAKES THE FOLLOWING APPOINTMENTS:

Councilor Barros shall chair the Substance Abuse/DARE Committee.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES KEN POSTLE, 113 OAKDALE AVENUE, PAWTUCKET, RI

Mr. Postle wishes to speak about the 2010 census. He states that the census bureau is doing testing for census jobs. The jobs pay $16.00 per hour and are part-time positions until September. He has one of these jobs. He is concerned that not enough people from Pawtucket are applying for these census jobs.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR VITALI.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Vitali, seconded by the entire City Council, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Dr. Hans Dellith, Interim Superintendent, Pawtucket Public Schools, requesting that he provide the City Council with a copy of the preliminary School Performance Audit.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR VITALI.

With majority consent of the Council, the City Council will adjourn this evening in memory of PFC Kyle Joseph Coutu, a true American hero who gave his life in the defense of his country.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BARRY

With majority consent of the Council, the City Council will adjourn this evening in memory of Councilor Paul Wildenhain, another American hero, who served his country in the Navy and who served the residents of Pawtucket with honor and distinction for two decades as a member of the Pawtucket School Department and the Pawtucket City Council.

Upon motion made by Councilor Barry seconded by the entire City Council, the meeting is adjourned at 8:17 p.m. in memory of Councilor Paul J. Wildenhain and PFC Kyle Joseph Coutu.
