A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 7:25 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

 

Present – President Kinch, Councilors Barros, Barry, Chadwick, Hodge, Moran, Tetreault and Vitali.

 

Absent – Councilor Wildenhain.

 

President Kinch presides.

 

 

The reading of the records of October 21, 2009 is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

 

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Barry, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

Speaking in favor is Chu Hong Kim, 23 White Avenue, Riverside, RI, applicant.

 

Mr. Kim has been in business for nine years.

 

Mr. Kim states that his current lot is too small.  He wants to expand. The Broadway lot will hold twenty-five to thirty cars.

 

There will be no repairs done at that location.

 

 

Upon questioning from Councilor Barry, Mr. Kim states that he has not talked to the neighbors.  Councilor Barry notes that he told Mr. Kim to do so two months ago.

Mr. Kilmartin states that the applicant, Roberto Garcia, wants to open an auto sales and repair shop, which is the same type of business that is there now.  Mr. Garcia needs a second hand license for the rear lot.

Mr. Garcia has been in this business many years, but this is the first time as an owner/operator.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Ronald L. Wunschel, Director of Finance, requesting that he prepare an amendment to the budget ordinance to reduce the appropriation to the Pawtucket School Department by an amount equal to their increased appropriation this year over last year.  The money is to be put in the reserve account or a restricted receipt account to be used to pay the expenses of litigation against the city by the school committee.
