THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR CHADWICK.
With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Chadwick asks privilege to address John Holmes, Animal Control Supervisor to discuss concerns regarding dogs defecating on Smithfield Avenue and Power Road.
Councilor Chadwick states that there is an ongoing problem with dogs defecating on Smithfield Avenue and Power Road.
Mr. Holmes explains that there is a pooper/scooper ordinance in effect and will hand out flyers in that area to try to inform the public. He states that this has been effective. Animal Control Officers also will keep a list of violators, as a warning is to be given first.
Councilor Chadwick also asks about the possibility of Mutt Mitt dispensers.
Mr. Holmes states that he will look into this and the cost involved.
THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR BARROS.
With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Barros addresses John Holmes, Animal Control Supervisor to discuss concerns regarding skunks.
Councilor Barros states that there seems to be an increased problem with skunks and asks Mr. Holmes how this is handled.
Mr. Holmes explains that he recently attended a seminar on Rabies Control that discussed problems with skunks and raccoons.
Mr. Holmes explains that new ways of handling this problem are being researched, as these animals cannot be relocated as in the past.
Mr. Holmes states that the most effective way to not have a skunk problem is to make sure trash is covered tightly, even with bungee cords.
