City Council, August 23, 2006
A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 12:10 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – Councilors Barry, Bray, Carr, Hodge, Moran, Vitali and Wildenhain.
Absent – President Grebien, Councilor Clemente.
President Pro Tempore Moran presides.
The reading of the records of August 3, 2006 and August 9, 2006, are dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Barry, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Carr is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Dr. Hans W. Dellith, Superintendent of Schools and Alan J. Tenreiro, Chairperson, Pawtucket School Committee regarding the status of the school department’s current budget, in particular is a deficit anticipated and if so, what are the figures.
Upon further motion by Councilor Wildenhain, and passed unanimously by the Council, the following information is requested:
1. How many teachers retired and are not returning this year.
2. How many new teachers were hired and at what level pay; i.e. entry level or top pay level.
A response is requested in time for the September 6, 2006, Council meeting.

Carney, Director of Public Works requesting there opinions on alternative measures to slow down traffic on city streets, other than using speed humps/bumps. A response is requested in time for the September 6, 2006, Council meeting.

Councilor Hodge states for the record that he objects to the request that the Ordinance prohibiting adult soccer leagues from using the McKinnon/Alves Soccer Complex be Tabled.
