City Council, September 19, 2001

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at eight o’clock p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. 

Present – Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.

Absent – President Barry.

President Pro-Tempore Bray presides.

The reading of the records of September 5, 2001, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Hoyas, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

Petition for Auto Repair Shop and Second Hand Shop Licenses (Class A & B – Selling used automobiles and parts) of Coastal Collision, Towing & Auto Sales, Inc. d/b/a Coastal Auto Sales, 540 Pawtucket Avenue, (Previously located at 277 West Avenue) Tax Assessor’s Plat 63, Lot 737, to keep a shop for the purpose of repairing automobiles and purchasing and selling second hand articles, specifically:  Used automobiles and parts, LIC# 30262 & 40273, which was advertised for a hearing at this time, is taken up:

Speaking in favor is applicant, Jimmy Martins, 149 Columbia Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

Mr. Martins states that this business is the same type of business that was run on West Avenue, auto repair and car sales.

His hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Martins states that there will be no more than 8 vehicles for sale at one time and those vehicles are enclosed within 4 foot poles on the lot.

The next speaker is Russell Gusetti, 29 Carver Street, Pawtucket, RI.

Mr. Gusetti states that he is not in opposition to the license, but would like to address some concerns.

Mr. Gusetti questions if tow-trucks will be going down Carver Street, which is a relatively small and narrow street, and will the tow trucks be in operation in the middle of the night.

Mr. Martins states that he will address the issue of the trucks traveling on Carver Street with his drivers; however, he is a 24-hour tow company that does towing for the City of Pawtucket.

Mr. Gusetti also questions if there is an intercom system at Coastal Collision.

Mr. Martins states that the only intercom system is internal.

There are no other speakers.  The Hearing is closed.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR GREBIEN.

Upon motion made by Councilor Grebien, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the following licenses are APPROVED WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATION on a unanimous voice vote:

STIPULATION

1.  No more than 8 vehicles in the front lot for sale at any given time.
