A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at eight four o’clock p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – President Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.

Speaking in favor is applicant, Mario Gonzalez, 163 Ledge Street, Providence, RI.
Mr. Gonzalez wants to operate a respectable business and he has notified neighbors of what type of business he intends to have.
Mr. Gonzalez states that Internet sales are the future of the auto sales business.
Mr. Gonzalez states he has improved the outside appearance of this property and has already made arrangements to have junk picked up every day or two.
Upon questioning from Councilor Clemente, Mr. Gonzalez states that he will have no more than 30 vehicles in the lot at one time. He wants quality autos not quantity.
Councilor Clemente states that only 1 car per 500 feet is allowed per the City’s ordinance.
Speaking in favor is Frank Corey, 206 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Corey states that he is the owner of Narragansett Auto Parts and has done business with Mr. Gonzalez over the years and feels he will do an excellent job.
Also speaking in favor is Cesar Tomayo, 202 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Tamayo lives next door to this business and states that the property is very clean and has no problem with this business.

Speaking in favor is applicant, Ramon Aponte, 258 Columbus Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Aponte states that he has been operating a catalogue business from his home, however he has built a clientele and needs a location to sell his merchandise.
There will be a showroom inside and nothing will be placed outside. The location of the business is small, only about 1000 square feet. Mr. Aponte states that he wants to show the actual merchandise other than just catalogue sales.
The next speaker is Steven Weinberg, Weinberg Glass.
Mr. Weinberg states that his business has been there 21 years and is concerned with a new business moving in.
Mr. Weinberg states that he is in support of Aponte’s business but does not want merchandise outside. He feels that downtown is a junkyard. He is opposed to merchandise on the sidewalks and is afraid that more businesses will add to the junk already there.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Ronald F. Travers, Director, Zoning and Code Enforcement, requesting that he enforce Chapter 2613 of the Ordinances of the City of Pawtucket regulating sidewalk sales.
The Council has received a complaint from a business owner on North Union Street stating that refrigerators and merchandise are on the sidewalks causing an eyesore. The Council is requesting that he inspect this area as well as the rest of the City to make sure businesses are in compliance with this ordinance.

The Clerk is instructed to refer a copy of the Noise Ordinance to the Ordinance Committee for review. In particular, the Ordinance Committee is instructed to review the section dealing with dumping and deliveries early in the morning.

WHEREAS, The City of Pawtucket seeks to provide equal protection to all spouses and not just widows; and

WHEREAS, The City of Pawtucket seeks to achieve consistency between the aforesaid Agreements and Section 59-26 of the Code of Ordinances in providing equal protection; and
Change the sixth WHEREAS to read as follows:
WHEREAS, The City Council has ratified said these Agreements being ratified by the City Council and the terms thereof are incorporated and made a part of this resolution;
