City Council, May 10, 2000
A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at eight fifteen o’clock p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – President Barry, Councilors Bray, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, Hoyas, Moran, and Wildenhain.
Absent – Councilor Carr.
President Barry presides.
The reading of the records of April 19, 2000, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

Communication from His Honor, Mayor James E. Doyle, to the Honorable John J. Barry, III, President, Pawtucket City Council (Request from Janet Zwolinski, for tax exempt status), is LAID ON THE TABLE.
THE FOLLOWING PETITION FOR LICENSE, WHICH WAS ADVERTISED FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON APRIL 19, 2000, AND WAS LAID ON THE TABLE, IS AGAIN TAKEN UP:
Petition of George Thurber d/b/a George’s Games & Music for a license to operate a Game Room, at 101 Main Street, Tax Assessor’s plat 23, lots 661, 670, LIC# 80001
Speaking in favor is Maurice Caron, Attorney, representing applicant, George Thurber.
Mr. Caron refers to a meeting held at George Thurber’s establishment with Council President Barry, Councilor Moran and a representative of the Police Department. Mr. Caron states that stipulations were discussed regarding certain restrictions and supervision until closing time at the establishment. Mr. Thurber has agreed to all restrictions that were discussed.
Mr. Thurber states that the game room will be a supervised place for young people to go to after school. He plans to open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and for private parties remaining open until 11:00 p.m.
Council President Barry states that the curfew stipulation, which will be placed on this license, states that children under 16 cannot be allowed on the street after 10:00 p.m.; therefore, he is requesting that all children under the age of sixteen be sent home no later than 9:30 p.m. in order to comply with the curfew ordinance.
Council President Barry states that the businesses in the area have concerns with loitering. Mr. Thurber has agreed that there will be an employee to police the area with cell phones, especially when the business is closing.
Councilor Moran states that he thinks Mr. Thurber is doing a great job to have a place for young people to go to.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael E. Burns, Traffic Engineering Supervisor, requesting that discussions begin between him, Jack Carney, and representatives of the United States Post Office regarding concerns with traffic flow when the Post Office on Armistice Boulevard relocates to the former Ferland Building on Monticello Road.
The Council is especially concerned because of the new Soccer Filed, which will be opened at the old Newman Crosby Site between Monticello Road and Columbus Avenue.
