City Council, July 19, 2000

A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at twelve o’clock noon, in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

Present – Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge and Wildenhain.

Absent – President Barry, and Councilors Hoyas, and Moran.

President Pro-Tempore Bray presides.

THE COUNCIL RECESSES IMMEDIATELY TO CONVENE AS THE PAWTUCKET BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS.

THE COUNCIL RECONVENES AT TWELVE TWO O’CLOCK P.M.

COUNCILOR HOYAS ARRIVES AT TWELVE TWO O’CLOCK P.M.

The reading of the records of July 5, 2000, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HOYAS.

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Hoyas introduces the following resolution:

RESOLUTION PLACING A QUESTION ON THE NOVEMBER 7, 2000, BALLOT AMENDING THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET TO REQUIRE THAT SIX MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE BE ELECTED FROM COUNCILMANIC DISTRICTS AND ONE MEMBER BE ELECTED FROM THE CITY AT LARGE.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hoyas, seconded by Councilor Carr, the following resolution is LAID ON THE TABLE on a unanimous voice vote:

RESOLUTION PLACING A QUESTION ON THE NOVEMBER 7, 2000, BALLOT AMENDING THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF PAWTUCKET TO REQUIRE THAT SIX MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE BE ELECTED FROM COUNCILMANIC DISTRICTS AND ONE MEMBER BE ELECTED FROM THE CITY AT LARGE.

642      Communication from Bill Mulholland, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, to the Honorable City Council, requesting approval for the Reenactment/Living History event to be held at Slater Park on August 12 –13, 2000, is READ AND ORDERED FILED

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR HOYAS.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hoyas, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the request of Bill Mulholland, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote, along with the additional request that fires be allowed, per approval of the Fire Chief and Public Safety Officials.

With majority consent of the Council, Councilor Grebien introduces the following:

List of members who served on the Veterans Memorial Committee.

Upon motion made by Councilor Grebien, seconded by Councilor Clemente, the following list is READ AND ORDERED FILED, and is REFERRED TO THE CITY PROPERTY COMMITTEE on a unanimous voice vote:

The following resolution is taken up:

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PLACEMENT OF A PLAQUE ONTO A GRANITE PODIUM IN THE VICINITY OF THE VETERANS MEMORIAL MONUMENT, LISTING THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO LED THE EFFORT IN ERECTING SAID MONUMENT.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR GREBIEN.

Upon motion made by Councilor Grebien, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the following resolution is LAID ON THE TABLE, and is REFERRED BACK TO THE CITY PROPERTY COMMITTEE, on a unanimous voice vote:
