City Council, August 23, 2000
A regular session of the Pawtucket City Council is held Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at twelve four o’clock p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
Present – President Barry, Councilors Bray, Carr, Clemente, Grebien, Hodge, and Wildenhain.
Absent – Councilors Hoyas and Moran.
President Barry presides.
THE COUNCIL RECESSES IMMEDIATELY TO CONVENE AS THE PAWTUCKET BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS.
THE COUNCIL RECONVENES AT TWELVE TEN O’CLOCK P.M.
The reading of the records of August 9, 2000, is dispensed with and the records are APPROVED as prepared by the Clerk.
Upon motion made by Councilor Bray, seconded by Councilor Hodge, the *Consent Agenda is APPROVED, on a unanimous voice vote.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the following communication is READ AND ORDERED FILED:
Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Grebien, the request of the Pawsox to reschedule the fireworks display that was cancelled due to rain on August 13, 2000, is APPROVED for September 6 or 8, 2000, depending on the outcome of the playoff series, on a unanimous voice vote.

Upon motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Carr, the following ordinance is LAID ON THE TABLE and is REFERRED TO THE ORDINANCE COMMITTEE, on a unanimous voice vote:

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Grebien, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to the Paul Pinault, Executive Director, Narragansett Bay Commission, regarding a recent article that appeared in the Pawtucket Times, regarding a computer glitch being blamed for hundreds of Narragansett Bay Commission customers also served by the Pawtucket Water Supply Board.
The Council is asking for the following information:
1. Explanations of what happened to cause this problem.
2. Can a payment plan be set up for those people affected by the large sewer bills as a result of this problem?

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Grebien, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Pamela M. Marchand, P.E., Chief Engineer, Pawtucket Water Supply Board, also regarding the article in the Pawtucket Times, and asking for the following information:
1. Why was the information held up until now?
2. What is being done to avoid the same problem from occurring in the future?
3. An explanation as to what caused the problem to begin with.
