A regular session of the City Council is held Wednesday, May 22, 1996, at eight four o’clock p.m. All the members are present and President Barry presides.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Richard E. DeLyon, Chief of Police, to ask that he no longer use the emergency purchase procedure for police car repairs. Instead, the Council believes that there are sufficient cars in the Police Department to use the regular sealed bid process.
THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR RABBITT.
With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Rabbitt, seconded by Councilor Hodge, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Narragansett Coated Paper Corp., requesting that the truck drivers enter and exit the lot using the Division Street/Bliss Street curb cut, rather than the York Avenue curb cut.
The Council believes this will greatly improve the traffic flow, and be less disturbing to the neighbors.

With majority consent of the Council, the following motion made by Councilor Hodge, seconded by Councilor Moran, is PASSED on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to William Mulholland, Director of Parks and Recreation, to ask that if he uses any of the zoo buildings for an extended period of time for any purpose, that he notify the Council of that purpose.
In addition, if he continues using the building which formerly housed Fanny, for batting cages, the Council would like him to make those cages available to all the leagues in the City.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to Michael D. Cassidy, Director of Planning and Redevelopment; Mayor Robert E. Metivier; Mike Burns, Traffic Engineer, to ask them to request the State if they could change the signs on Route 95 North, to show downtown Pawtucket at exit 28, the School Street exit, instead of exit 27.
Also, the Council would like Mr. Cassidy to look into the possibility of reversing the traffic flow on Main Street, from East Avenue heading North towards the Registry. The Council believes it would bring more people into the downtown area.
