Mr. Holland states that the problem is painting is being done without proper equipment. He should stop until he gets proper equipment, because the neighbors are getting fumes.

Mr. Carrion doesn’t want to deny the license, but he is concerned about the fumes, and wants the applicant to follow E.P.A. guidelines.

Speaking in opposition is Leslie J. Malloy, 64 Daniel Street, Pawtucket, RI.

Mr. Malloy is concerned about the paint. He doesn’t object to repairs and sales.

Mr. Couacha states that he will change the exhaust system on the spray booth.

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to John T. Gannon, City Solicitor, regarding the Kellaway Lease for the Welfare Building on Commerce Street.

The Council would like him to determine two things:

1.         Can the City break the lease if it is determined that the landlord is not providing a safe working environment for the employees; and,

2.         What is the City’s liability as the lessee if some of the employees or the clients of the Welfare Office get sick.

The Council is requesting that he look into health problems that employees are having presumedly caused by poor air quality that is coming from the trucks and forklifts at the Kellaway operation on the first floor.

THE CHAIR RECOGNIZES COUNCILOR KINDER.

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Kinder, seconded by Councilor Demopulos, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:

The Clerk is instructed to send a communication to John T. Gannon, City Solicitor, to forward the letter from Representative Mabel Anderson, to review the proposed legislation.

Upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the following meeting is adjourned at nine twenty-five o’clock p.m.
