A regular session of the City Council is held Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at eight thirty-five o’clock p.m. All the members are present and President Barry presides.

Speaking in favor is Theodore Low, 95 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI.
Mr. Low represents Rhode Island Textile Company. He states that the company intends to keep the northern part of the street and the southern part of the street will go to the abutter across the street. They intend to build a 12 ft. loading platform with an elevator.
There are two utility lines in the street, one water line is disconnected and there is one sewer line, which is used by Rhode Island Textile Company. They have met with the Narragansett Bay Commission regarding the sewer line.
There was a phone pole which has been removed.
They expect that there will be an increase in employment once the renovations are complete.
There are no other speakers.

Upon Motion made by Councilor Rabbitt, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the petition for abandoned of a portion of Farrell Street, (approximately 8800 sq.ft.) is APPROVED SUBJECT TO EASEMENTS on a unanimous voice vote:
That certain portion of a public right of way called Farrell Street in the City of Pawtucket, County of Providence and State of Rhode Island, being bounded and described as follows:
Beginning at a point located at the northwesterly corner of said Farrell Street and Dean Street.
Thence southerly, bounded easterly by said Farrell Street, a distance of forty and 00/100 (40.00) feet to a corner.
Thence turning an interior angle of 90 and running westerly along the southerly line of said Farrell Street, bounded southerly by land, now or formerly, belonging to The Worthington Steel Co., a distance of two hundred ten and 00/100 (210.00) feet to a corner.
Thence turning an interior angle of 90 and running northerly along the westerly terminus of said Farrell Street, bounded westerly by said Worthington Steel Co., a distance of forty and 00/100 (40.00) feet to a corner.

The last course and the first course form an interior angle of 90 and the proposed abandonment of Farrell Street contains 8,400 square feet of land .....
which has ceased to be useful to the public and the same by and hereby IS ABANDONED, subject to a 10’ wide easement from the center line of the Abandoned portion of Farrell Street, running a distance of 120’ westerly from Dean Street, and that no damage is sustained by any abutting owner or other person by reason of such abandonment, and IT IS FURTHER ORDERED THAT THE CITY CLERK shall cause a notice thereof to be published in the Evening Times for three successive weeks and to cause to be served a further notice upon every owner of land abutting said portion of Farrell Street which has been abandoned who is known to reside within the State. FURTHER, THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS shall cause a sign to be placed at each end of said portion of Farrell Street herein ordered abandoned having thereon the words "NOT A PUBLIC HIGHWAY."
The sewer line under the above easement shall be equally maintained by the abutting property owners.

The Council would like to know the results of that test and if any cleanups have taken place on that land over the last five years.
