City Council, July 6, 1994
A regular session of the City Council is held Wednesday, July 6, 1994, at eight o’clock p.m. All the members are present except Councilors Hodge and Rabbitt; President Barry presides.
The reading of the Records of June 10, 1994, and June 22, 1994, is dispensed with and the Records are approved as prepared by the Clerk.
With majority consent of the Council, upon Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, the *Consent Agenda is approved on a unanimous voice vote.

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a Communication to Mike Burns, Traffic Engineer, requesting that he do a parking survey on and around Main Street, near the Cancer Society and the Mathieu Senior Center. The Council would like to know how many on-street parking spaces there are currently in that area, and if any additional parking could be made available to the people who use these organizations. This request is a result of concerns expressed by the Cancer Society for available parking due to the fact that the municipal parking lot behind the School Administration Building will be used for registry parking.

With majority consent of the Council, the following Motion made by Councilor Vieira, seconded by Councilor Kinder, is passed on a unanimous voice vote:
The Clerk is instructed to send a Communication to Michael Cassidy, Director of Planning and Redevelopment, requesting that he attend the next pre-council meeting scheduled for July 20, 1994, to discuss the parking situation on Main Street for the Cancer Society and other organizations in the Area.
The Cancer Society is upset at the loss of parking due to the spaces being reserved for the Registry.
Pierre A. Emond, 33 Naushon Ct. Term expires First Monday in January 1998. (To fill unexpired term of George F. Sylvia)
The following appointment of Pierre A. Emond to serve as a Member of the Water Supply Board is Confirmed on a roll call vote, as follows:

Morales d/b/a J & B Auto Sales, 192 Pine Street, Tax Assessor’s Plat 53, Lot 173, to keep a shop for the purpose of purchasing and selling used articles, specifically used automobiles, which was advertised for a hearing at this time, is taken up: LIC#40140
Speaking in favor are:

Jose Morales, 630 Smithfield Rd., North Providence, RI.
Mr. Gomez states that he will run the business. He previously ran Central Motors.
Mr. Morales states that he thought he applied for an auto repair shop license as well as the second hand shop license; however, he will do so.
Mr. Morales states that he will not park junked cars in the adjacent lot.
Speaking in opposition is Charles Kirwan, 26 Garden Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Mr. Kirwan states that he is concerned because the space is too small for an auto repair shop. The previous owner violated the ordinance by doing work outside the garage.
Mr. Kirwan congratulates the applicants for cleaning the lot.
