DOCKET FOR THE CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING

AUGUST 15, 2026

The following items of business will come before the Council at a special meeting to be held on August 15, 2026 at 10:00am at City Hall, Council Chambers, 43 Broadway, Newport RI 02840:

1.  Suspension of the Rules of the Council, Section 2-21(E)1(b) to hold the meeting as noticed.

2.  Executive Session

Pursuant to Rhode Island General Laws, Sections 42-46-1(a)(1) discussions concerning the job performance, character or physical or mental health of a person AND 42-46-1(a)(2) sessions pertaining to collective bargaining or litigation, the Newport City Council will meet in Executive Session in the City Solicitor’s Office, Second Floor, Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway Newport RI 02840, to discuss issues involving the City Manager’s employment with The City and resolutions concerning the same including the term of his employment.

3.  The City Council after adjourning from Executive Session and convening back in public session may take the following action:

(a)   Disclose any votes taken in Executive Session unless it determines such disclosure would jeopardize any strategy, negotiation or investigation undertaken pursuant to Executive Session discussions.

(b)   Vote to seal the minutes of the Executive Session
