Policy & Procedure for Recycling

POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR RECYCLING

In accordance with the Comprehensive Solid Waste Plan, Chapter 6-3-5, Rhode  Island State and Federal laws, and as a service to our community and prosperity,  Middletown Public Schools actively recycles paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, batteries,  computer parts and ink cartridges.

I. SCHOOL RECYCLING LOCATIONS

Every classroom and staff desk in each of the schools will have a specific bin for  paper products and cardboard. Scrap paper trays should be kept in each  classroom by the teacher in an effort to use the backside of extra worksheet  copies.

Large receptacles labeled for bottles and cans will be located in all rooms where  food is consumed.

There will be a designated place for batteries, computer parts and ink cartridges  in each building. The placement of bins for these recyclables will vary  depending upon the school.

II. RECYCLING EDUCATION

Teachers will be instructed on recycling specifics and will be issued a list of  guidelines during meetings prior to the start of school. These guidelines will  also be added to the faculty handbook.

Methods of advertising recycling throughout the school year includes posters,  guest speakers, environmental club meetings, handouts and health classes.  A standard informational page on the specifics of recycling will be posted  wherever there is a recycling bin.
