CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The Middletown School Committee is committed to a high-quality, coherent, and equitable K–12 instructional program through a district-wide High-Quality Curriculum Management System (HQCMS). This system ensures that all teachers deliver the same core content and learning objectives, aligned to Rhode Island academic standards, providing every student with consistent access to rigorous instruction.

The curriculum management system shall ensure:

Consistency and Quality- All teachers will deliver the same core content and learning objectives across classrooms and schools.

Vertical Alignment- Curriculum is intentionally organized across grade levels and course sequences so that learning builds progressively and prepares students for subsequent levels without gaps or redundancy.

Standards Alignment- Curriculum and instructional guides are developed from Rhode Island academic standards and frameworks to ensure students are taught essential content for their educational journey.

Middletown is committed to ensuring success for all students.  Curriculum guides  will identify clear expectations for all and identify priority learning goals, instructional strategies, assessments, and resources so that teachers, students, and families are aware of learning objectives and performance expectations.

The Superintendent/or designee shall establish, oversee, and maintain the district’s curriculum management system for all fields of study. The system shall ensure alignment with Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) High-Quality Curriculum Materials (HQCM) standards and support state monitoring, accreditation, and accountability requirements. It shall include:

  1. Program Review: There shall be a systematic review cycle aligned to state standards, accountability requirements, and RIDE HQCM expectations. Curriculum documentation shall be maintained, accessible, and current for review.

  2. Program Development: Standards-aligned curriculum design will ensure coherence among the written, taught, and assessed curriculum, with instructional materials and professional learning aligned to HQCM expectations.

  3. Program Implementation: Consistent, district-wide implementation with fidelity will be supported by professional learning and monitored using evidence of instructional effectiveness.

  4. Program Evaluation: There will be ongoing evaluation using multiple measures of student learning and implementation fidelity. Results shall be analyzed and reported to inform continuous improvement, curriculum revisions, and RIDE reporting requirements.

The Superintendent/or designee shall provide regular reports to the School Committee and present recommendations for curriculum improvements necessary to ensure continuous improvement and student achievement.
