Student Attendance Facilitator
STUDENT ATTENDANCE FACILITATOR
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelors Degree
2. Good written and oral communication skills.
3. Knowledge of or the ability to obtain knowledge of the Middletown community.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse population and sensitivity to that population.
5. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain community programs for youth.
6. Competent user of computer technology, including word processing, or the willingness to develop such competency.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent or his/her designee
JOB GOALS: To address attendance and truancy problems in order to assure that all students in the district gain full advantage from his/her education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Initiates proactive and extensive outreach to non-attending youth. Recommends appropriate follow-up.
2. Maintains a professional awareness of state laws, regulations, School Committee policies and school administrative regulations regarding child welfare and school attendance.
3. Monitors the progress of students who are receiving home teaching to assure that students are properly exempted from regular school attendance and reports to the coordinators of home teaching.
4. Works collaboratively with teachers, school nurses, guidance counselors, and principals and other school personnel to identify and outreach to students who are absent or tardy.
5. Informs the social workers, school nurses, guidance counselors, and other appropriate school personnel of the attendance patterns of chronic offenders.
6. Participates in MDT, CASE, and IEP meetings as necessary and appropriate.
7. Interviews and recommends placement of all students returning from schools of correction or juvenile detention centers.
8. Serves as liaison among schools, parents, courts, community agencies, and police authorities.
9. Maintains good written and oral communication with the community.
10. Advocates for students in various settings throughout the community.
11. Develops and participates in programs and activities in conjunction with social service agencies for students at risk of dropping out.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month position, non-standard work hours, non-certified position.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent or his/her designee.
