NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school preferred.
- Four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; MCSE,CCNA, A+ Certification,.3-5 years of broad technical experience, with at least 2-3 years in a senior network administration role
- Experience using and operating in a Windows 2003/XP environment, with a strong knowledge of network infrastructure, networking concepts and hardware (such as switches, routers, firewalls, etc.), network security and encryption on the Internet
- Thorough knowledge of operating environments and infrastructure is required, as is the ability to learn new operating systems quickly
- Working knowledge of MS Terminal Services.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, database design, database report writers, including SQL and Access.
- Working knowledge of programming code (visual basic).
- Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and SNMP protocols
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff
- Analytic ability to determine root causes of problems
- Receptive to change and comfortable working with students, parents, staff and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
- Have experience in providing assistance to others in the use of hardware and software
- Know and follow district policy and chain of command
- Experience in the field: workstation configuration and hardware/software installation, configuration, and repair.
15. Excellent troubleshooting and project management skills, as well as strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Demonstrate good skills in computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft products.

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
JOB GOAL: To maintain all computers, peripherals and networks in such a condition of operating excellence that maximum educational use may be made of them at all times.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year. Salary and work year to be established by the School Committee.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Technology.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
- Responsible for maintenance, installation, and configuration of district technology equipment, including hardware repair and software configuration/re-installation.
- Troubleshoots and repairs hardware and software problems and their peripheral devices including all workstations, printers, scanners, projectors, document cameras, phones and phone system and audio visual equipment.
- Responsible for assisting help desk with hardware, software and small parts inventory.
- Assists with the management of the district's wide area network. Performs backups of all administrative servers and maintains servers.
- Assists with planning and administering security on the network. Monitor network devices daily.
- Analyzes performance and problems of the network and produces network management reports. Helps to maintains & updates network plan. Works with consultants/architects/planners on network development.
- Assists in writing bid specs for equipment, with bid requests and equipment and small parts acquisition.
- Works with all staff to resolve hardware and software difficulties as well as service, setup and upgrade hardware as appropriate.
- Assists buildings with operating and maintaining equipment and networks, assists with testing and installing software, teaching teachers where appropriate.
- Assists and monitors backups, virus checks and print queue management.
- Assists the district in utilizing and managing other technology as needed.
- Performs periodic preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Administer all district file servers including users (with help desk), applications, backup, rights, printing, Internet protocols and security.
- Operates/manages/monitors/documents the district's wide area network. Performs backups of all file servers and maintains servers.
- Assists with archiving of data, planning and administering for disaster recovery.
- Install and maintain network equipment as needed: servers, switches, wireless equipment, etc.
- Develop a strong knowledge of education technology trends; be familiar and remain current with changes and developments in technology as related to Middletown Public Schools and our users.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology
