Director of Performance Based Graduation Requirements

 

 

DIRECTOR OF PERFORMANCE BASED GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.          Multiple R.I. Teaching Certifications (preferred)

2.          Master’s Degree

3.          A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the high school level

4.          Evidence of supporting a vision that reflects an ALL STUDENTS classroom program

5.          Experience in using technology to support teaching and learning including, but not limited to, developing protocols for the PBGR process

6.          Experience with planning, coordinating and validating instructional innovation efforts

7.          Experience with a variety of assessment strategies

8.          Ability to use data to support the school-wide reform efforts

9.          Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the RI high school regulations

10.      Experience as a Capstone teacher

11.      Ability to work with colleagues, parents, students, and administrators

12.      Demonstrated capacity to provide leadership and support for the implementation of “Principles of Learning™”, the “Certificate of Initial Mastery” as well as the RI High School Diploma System

13.      Experience in developing and validating common assessments (tasks)

14.      Experience in implementation of Community Service Learning

15.      Demonstrate exemplary oral and written communication and listening skills

16.      Experience in leading professional development activities for staff

17.      Positive attitude

18.      Successful interview

REPORTS TO:  High School Principal

 

JOB GOALS:

                                               

To provide leadership, coordination, and innovation in the eight (8) policy categories of Administration, Curriculum, Supervision, Staff Development, Evaluation, Community Relations, Management and Human Relations so that all may derive maximum benefit from one’s efforts.

 

COMPENSATION:  As per contract (to be negotiated with NEAM)

 

EVALUATION:  By High School Principal (new evaluation instrument to be developed jointly by NEAM and administration)

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Oversee record-keeping:  CIM tasks, Capstone Proposals, PBGR Status Reports, and Community Service Learning.

2.      Provide guidance to parents, students, and teachers.

3.      Train and coordinate judging for Capstone presentations and assist in promoting and securing community involvement.

4.      Provide logistical support for portfolio review.

5.      Act as a liaison to the RI Skills Commission (RISC) for the use of CIM tasks across all disciplines.

6.      Coordinate and facilitate RISC tasks among all departments.

7.      Promote Community Service Learning activities and post opportunities for students.

8.      Inform and advise teachers, students and parents with regard to Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements for Middletown High School.

9.      Assist faculty in the development and implementation of common assessments through Professional Development activities.

10.  Provide academic status reports to administrators, parents, teachers, students, and school counselors on student progress of PBGR’s.

11.  Establishes and maintains positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.

12.  Serve as a liaison between RIDE and other Directors.

13.  Attend state meetings serving as a liaison with RIDE, RISC and the district.

14.  Such alternatives to the above responsibilities as the School Committee or Superintendent may find appropriate.

 

A.  ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP:

 

  1. Support and implement the district’s Strategic Plan and School Committee goals
  2. Support School Improvement goals as a member or an Ad-Hoc member of the site-based council
  3. Support the school’s vision and goals
  4. Meet with other High School Directors to promote interdisciplinary programs
  5. Assist the principal or his/her designee in the scheduling process
  6. Oversee the orientation and supervision of new teachers
  7. Conduct department meetings on a regularly-scheduled basis
  8. Promote and facilitate the Principles of Learning in department professional development
  9. Support the Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements (PBRGs) and all other high school regulations
  10. Assure equal access to all courses and programs in accordance with RIDE HS Regulations
  11. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent/Building Principal
  12. Inform and advise teachers, students and parents with regard to PBGRs for Middletown High School
  13. Coordinate and facilitate RISC tasks among all departments

 

B.    CURRICULUM IMPROVEMENT PROCESS:

 

1.        Support the Curriculum Improvement Process, aligning curriculum with content and performance standards

2.        Assess the needs of the department, develop course objectives and design departmental course assessment

3.        Integrate the use of technologies in both student learning and teacher research

4.        Review student achievement data in order to plan instructional changes

5.        Support differentiated instructional practices and strategies in all courses

6.        Promote interdisciplinary instruction in all courses

7.        Coordinate and align instruction with the middle school

8.        Align curriculum, including course selection and development, with district/State Grade Level Expectation and Grade Span Expectation

9.        Oversee the development of common assessments

10.    Participate in RI Skills Commission Task Development and Calibration

11.    Promote Community Service Learning activities and post secondary opportunities for students

 

C.    SUPERVISORY LEADERSHIP:

 

1.     Encourage the use of an effective variety of teaching strategies and practices

2.     Be responsible for recommending a budget, as part of the school department budget

3.     Assist teachers in implementing a standards-based instructional curriculum

4.     Provide support to teachers in implementing Disciplinary Literacy instructional strategies

5.     Assist teachers in organizing instruction to meet student’s needs and learning styles

6.     Assist in determining personnel needs, including interviewing, screening, and recommending teacher candidates

7.     Assure all staff members of the department are implementing the high school regulations

8.     Provide a professional positive role model to staff and students

 

D.  STAFF DEVELOPMENT, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND IMPROVEMENT:

 

1.     Provide professional liaison between the district, local, state and national professional organizations of your discipline, as well as communicate with your counterpart departments in other districts and states

2.     Conduct regular meetings with staff that promote instructional improvement and current research in practices.  Encourage staff attendance at professional conferences

3.     Provide professional growth activities necessary for implementing new programs and for programs as needed

4.     Identify needs related to professional development for staff to assist in the facilitation of interdisciplinary opportunities

5.     Maintain the ethics of your profession

6.     Assist faculty in the development and implementation of common assessments through Professional Development activities

 

E.     EVALUATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.     Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of departmental programs and arrange for such revisions as deemed necessary on an on-going basis

 

F.     COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

 

1.     Assist in identifying and utilizing community resources for the department

2.     Utilize community resources on an on-going basis to enhance classroom programs

3.     Maintain communication with parents/guardians on a regular basis

4.     Provide guidance to parents, students, and teachers

5.     Establishes and maintains positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community

 

G.   MANAGEMENT LEADERSHIP:

 

1.     Study, screen and recommend materials, methods and techniques of teaching in the instructional area

2.     Use and analyze data to improve instruction and student achievement

3.     Coordinate timelines and activities with other high school directors

4.     Oversee record-keeping:  CIM tasks, Capstone Proposals, PBGR Status Reports, and Community Service Learning

5.     Train and coordinate judging for Capstone presentations and assist in promoting and securing community involvement

6.     Provide logistical support for portfolio review

7.     Provide academic status reports to administrators, parents, teachers, students, and school counselors on student progress of PBGR’s

 

H.   HUMAN RELATIONS:

 

1.     Utilize caring, supporting and motivating techniques in all interpersonal contacts, i.e., student, staff and community

2.     Be an advocate for the school vis-a-vis colleagues, students, and parents

3.     Act as a liaison to the RI Skills Commission (RISC) for the use of CIM tasks across all disciplines

4.     Serve as a liaison between RIDE and other Directors

5.     Attend state meetings serving as a liaison with RIDE, RISC and the district
