Account Manager

 

ACCOUNT MANAGER

 

            Under direction of the School Department’s Director of Finance (Business Manager), the Account Manager will supervise the accounting operations of the Business Office, payroll and accounts payable staff, assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, perform highly complex and specialized accounting functions, and be responsible for maintenance of sound internal controls.  The Account Manager will assist in the preparation and presentation of the budget and other projects, as well as assist in the development and implementation of long term goals for the financial stability of the Middletown School Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for the supervision of accounting professionals:  Human Resource, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.

·         Direct and oversee day to day operations of group.

·         Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

·         Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

·         Implement an automated cash reconciliation using current accounting software.

·         Reconcile cash account to bank statements monthly and then reconcile the cash account to the General Ledger with the School Department’s Director of Finance (Business Manager) to ensure segregation of duties.

·         Implement office procedures and maintain the documentation for the daily operations at the School Department's Business Office.

·         Streamline monthly banking transactions using online banking.

·         Monitor & analyze interest rates on school funds to maximize interest revenues.

·         Collaborate with management in achieving the goals set by Middletown School Committee and the R.I. Department of Education.

·         Assist in the implementation of the Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA) and any new guidelines required by the Office of Finance.

·         Analyze financial and educational problems to develop solutions to improve operational functions.

·         Understand and manage Student Activity Accounts.

·         Work collaboratively with the Town’s Finance Department.

·         Research, investigate, and conduct required bid specifications according to policy requirements for district purchasing and appropriate School Committee action.

·         Related work as required by School Department’s Director of Finance (Business Manager).

·         Perform all other duties and exercise all other powers that may be delegated by the Superintendent of Schools.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·         Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.

·         Minimum 5 years of experience in the field or related area of municipal government.

·         Proven experience in a supervisory capacity in a related field.

·         Use technology to enhance job performance.

·         Record of exceptional performance in areas requiring attention to detail in the application of accounting principles and practices.

·         Exemplary interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

·         Strong ethical work habits.

·         Ability to work as a member of a team.

·         Knowledge of RI Chart of Accounts, Unifund Software, and School Department experience preferred.

 

Salary:            Commensurate with Experience
