Objectives
SCHOOL DISTRICT OBJECTIVES
In accordance with its statement of philosophy, Middletown Public Schools will employ its resources in order to enable students to acquire skills and knowledge necessary for personal fulfillment in a changing world by:
· Challenging students to develop the skills necessary for independent, critical thinking;
· Promoting competence in analyzing and evaluating information from diverse communications media;
· Encouraging students to use library and audiovisual resources effectively;
· Furnishing instruction in the use of developing technologies;
· Offering a comprehensive program in academic and career and technical education;
· Offering appropriate programs for students with special needs;
· Providing opportunities for enrichment and creative expression;
· Facilitating student participation in cooperative education programs related to courses of study;
· Enabling students to become knowledgeable, prudent consumers;
· Providing comprehensive guidance/counseling services;
· Providing students with learning environments appropriate to their needs;
· Supplementing school programs via community resources;
· Offering a comprehensive program of physical education, including meaningful instruction in leisure and fitness activities;
· Fostering a concept of good sportsmanship through carefully structured athletic programs;
· Providing health services, education, and information on health related issues of particular concern to young adults;
· Fostering an appreciation of the humanities;
Middletown Public Schools will also enable students to develop character and social responsibility by:
· Offering an environment in which students may work harmoniously with others;
· Organizing and supporting school sponsored projects and activities;
· Encouraging students to develop civic responsibility through volunteer service in community projects and participation in the democratic process, at developmentally appropriate grade levels;
· Developing public speaking and leadership skills;
· Encouraging cooperation between school and home;
· Promoting an environment in which students respect their peers and the staff; and
· Encouraging the development of responsibility for one’s own choices and actions.
