This was a joint meeting with the School Committee and Town Council to discuss the selection of Construction Managers at Risk for the school building project.

 

·         Call to Order

·         The meeting was called to order at 6:01 pm by Vice Chair Bill Nash.  Ten (10) of thirteen (13) voting members were present or represented by an alternate.

·         Also present: Derek Osterman, Justin Bernard, and Colin McCarthy, Colliers Project Leaders.

 

·         Town Administrator Update on the School Building Project

·         Town Administrator Shawn Brown provided an update on the project to the Town Counsel, including answers to questions that some Middletown residents had raised at the prior Town Council meeting on April 15, 2024.

·         Several Middletown residents asked questions and provided comments on the building project.  Town Administrator Brown provided answers to the questions that were raised.

 

·         Selection of Construction Managers at Risk

·         Vice Chair Bill Nash explained that the Building Committee voted and approved of recommendations for the selections of two Construction Managers at Risk at its last meeting and that the School Committee will be making motions to authorize the Town Council to enter contract negotiations with them.

·         School Committee Chair Theresa Spengler asked for a motion to authorize the Town Council to negotiate and execute an agreement with Bentley Companies for MID-024-009 for pre-construction services for renovation work to be completed at the Middletown High School, Forest Avenue Elementary School, and Aquidneck Elementary School.

·         MOTION:  Tami Holden moved that the School Committee authorize the Town Council to negotiate and execute an agreement with Bentley Companies for MID-024-009 for pre-construction services for renovation work to be completed at the Middletown High School, Forest Avenue Elementary School, and Aquidneck Elementary School and Greg Huet seconded. The motion passed unanimously (5-0).

·         School Committee Chair Theresa Spengler asked for a motion to authorize the Town Council to negotiate and execute an agreement with Gilbane Building Company for MIDDD-024-008 for pre-construction services for the new Middletown Middle-High School.

·         MOTION:  Tami Holden moved that the School Committee authorize the Town Council to negotiate and execute an agreement with Gilbane Building Company for MIDDD-024-008 for pre-construction services for the new Middletown Middle-High School and Greg Huet seconded. The motion passed unanimously (5-0).

 

·         Adjournment:

·         MOTION: Marc Thayer moved that the Building Committee adjourn at 7:28pm and Theresa Spengler seconded. The motion passed unanimously (10-0).

 

Future Meeting Schedule – The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on May 8, 2024 at 5:00p.m. at the Oliphant Administration Building.
